This was the game in the rain. The Conestoga Valley Buckskins beat the Warwick Warriors 23-16 in a very competitive game. It was one of a few games that were not canceled due to the flooding of 2011.
The game started off with a heavy downpour of rain and some big plays in the first half. Conestoga Valley quarterback Terence Taylor started off the festivities in the first quarter with a long touchdown run from a miss direction play. Taylor was also the 400-meter champ at the Lancaster-Lebanon league meet last spring.
Anthony Brown (RB/DB) had a great night on both sides of the ball. Brown also had a long run for a touchdown in the first half and showed good acceleration with a burst of straight-line speed.
With Warwick leading the game in the fourth quarter 16-15, Brown stopped the Warrior’s possible scoring drive with a big interception near the end zone that gave the Buckskins the ball back. The Buckskins then drove down the field and Brown took an option pitch from Taylor and ran for the game-winning touchdown with about 52 seconds left in the game.
Warwick with very little time on the clock tried to rally and drive down the field but was unsuccessful.
The Buckskins that went 5-6 last year will have a good ground attack this year with that backfield and good size on the offensive line with the likes of Tyler Good anchoring the line. Good looks to make a comeback after he tore his ACL last season.
The Warriors had a few big plays in the first half, none bigger then the 81-yard touchdown run by Brady Forney. Forney is an all-purpose back that showed his versatility with running, receiving, and even taking snaps as a quarterback. Brady is very athletic with good speed and is very aggressive when he makes plays. These are traits that college coaches love in a player. Warriors QB Tyler Farnan also showed good arm strength despite coming back from a broken throwing hand last season in the Warriors season opener.
Conestoga Valley’s defensive line was able to get a little pressure on Farnan but he stood tall in the pocket and threw some good passes to keep the Warriors in the game. Ultimately the Warriors who were 6-5 last year fell to a Buckskin team that has very good team speed on both sides of the ball and good size on the defensive line.
