Last September, the Comets gave Berwick a scare in the season opener on the new surface at Crispin Field. Leading at the half, 7-6, Crestwood did not have an answer for the ‘Dawgs quarterback Jared Pierce’s five touchdown performance (4 passing/1 rushing) in a, 32-14, Comet setback.

This year, however, would have no such Berwick comeback. For the first time in school history, the Crestwood Comets topped Berwick, 19-6, tonight.

Crestwood closed out the first half by scoring twice within a little more than three minutes at the end of the second frame. Vinny Genoble caught a 16-yard pass from Nick Aigeldinger with 3:55 to go before the intermission. On Berwick’s ensuing drive, Roger Legg picked off a Jared Pierce offering and returned the interception to the Bulldog 19-yard line. Forty-four seconds prior to the half, Legg pushed his way forward for the touchdown as the Comets led, 12-0, through two quarters.

Crestwood went up 19-0 after three periods and would win, 19-6. The Comets outgained Berwick, 305-234, in total yards from scrimmage.

The Comets’ Roger Legg (101) and Nick Aigeldinger (123) both rushed for over one hundred yards rushing. Aigeldinger tossed for 62 yards on 5 of 11 passing attempts.

Berwick was led by Jeremy Freeman, who ran for 103 yards on 17 totes. Pierce threw for 115 yards.

Berwick will play their home opener next Friday when they host North Pocono. Crestwood will travel to Quad-A Pocono Mountain West in week two.

  1. Great job Crestwood. I could remember the years past when even mentioning a Crestwood win over Berwick was unthinkable. Once again, way to go. By the way I’m not a Crestwood fan, just a NEPA football fan.
