TOURNAMENT FORMAT
SEE BELOW FOR THE CURRENT POINT AVERAGES FOR THE 4 CLASSIFICATIONS
In AAAA, we are a region unto ourselves. At the conclusion of the 10th week of the season, (November 1, 2008), the sixteen (16) Teams with the highest point average will qualify for the District One Playoffs. The eight (8) Teams with the highest point average will host the 1st Round Games. The same format will prevail for the following three (3) weeks. Play begins the weekend of November 7/8.
In AAA, eight (8) Teams with the highest point total will qualify for the District Playoffs. The teams will begin to play on the weekend of November 7/8, play single elimination for 3 consecutive weekends, and the winner will play the District 12 champion on the weekend of November 28/29
In AA, the three (3) District One Teams will compete with eleven (11) teams from District Twelve for the four (4) places in that Sub-Region tournament. For the 2008 season, the top Catholic League Team will play the top Public/Charter League team for the first round which will also determine the District Twelve 2A Champion. The top-ranked team from District One will play the next highest rated team in District Twelve (either Public, Charter, or Catholic). These two games will be played on November 7/8. The winners of those two games will play on November 14/15. The winner of that game will play the Champion of District Eleven on November 21/22.
In A, the five (5) District One Teams will compete with six (6) Teams from District Twelve for positions in the four (4) Team Sub-Region bracket. The top ranked team from each District will receive an automatic bid. The next two teams with the highest rank in the Sub-Region will be selected to complete the four (4) team bracket. The teams will then be ranked by point average for placement in the bracket on November 7/, Team #1 will play Team #4 and Team #2 will play Team #3. The winners of those two games will play on November 14/15 to determine which one will play the Champion from District Eleven on November 21/22.
The total bracket scenario will be shown on the District One website. www.district-one.net
FOOTBALL POINT SYSTEM
CLASSIFICATION
Each team must have a PIAA Classification. A Non-Member school of the PIAA must submit a form to the PIAA School it plays on which the male enrollment at the school for grades 10, 11, and 12 is noted and the form is signed by the Principal or Headmaster. That total number is then placed within the enrollment ranges established by the PIAA to determine the classification of the school.
POINT SYSTEM
Listed below is a chart that explains points earned when you defeat a school. There are no points awarded for a loss.
4A 3A 2A 1A
4A 100 80 60 40
3A 120 100 80 60
2A 140 120 100 80
1A 160 140 120 100
READ ACROSS
EXAMPLE:
4A defeats 2A = 60 points
3A defeats 4A = 120 points
1A defeats 1A = 100 points
In addition to the points earned for a win, there are bonus points earned under these conditions:
For any team that you defeat, you receive 10 points for every win that team has on its schedule before and after you defeat them. While the “win points” are related to the classification of your school and that of the opponent, the “ bonus points” are not. The bonus points are not related to team classifications.
At the conclusion of the first ten (10) weekends of the season, the “ win points” are added to the “bonus points” and their sum is divided by the number of games that you played during those ten (10) weeks. The averages established for each team are placed in rank order to determine which teams make the playoffs.
** STANDINGS WILL BE POSTED AFTER THE 5TH WEEK
The 4A & 3A in District One will be shown by themselves. In 2A & 1A, Districts One & Twelve schools will be co-mingled to give a true standing. An (Inc.) means information is lacking that is usually related to non-member PIAA schools. As information is received, the average will replace the INC.
STATE PLAYOFF SCHEDULE
The first round of the playoffs will be the weekend of Nov. 7/8
The finals will be held the weekend of December 12/13.
