District 11 Notes – Week 8

DISTRICT 11 NOTES (week 8):  

RUNNINGBACKS: 

Cade Christopher of Northwestern (1,085 yards), Cade Sawyer of Southern Lehigh (1,068 yards), Michael Pascoe of Panther Valley (1,028), and Jalen Fletcher of Freedom (1,017 yards) all went over 1,000 yards rushing on the season last week.  District leader Alex Achenbach of Williams Valley rushed for 219 yards and a td in their win over Marian Catholic.  Achenbach has 1,381 yards rushing and has scored a total of 20 td’s this season.  Aiden Myers of Schuylkill Haven has the second highest total this season with 1,177 yards.  Ben Manley of Mahanoy Area has exactly 2,000 career yards rushing joining teammate Colm McGroaty (2,290) with 2,000 career yards.  Achenbach leads the District with his 20 td’s scored and is followed by Christopher of Northwestern and Stephen Lilly of Palisades who both have scored 18 td’s.  Lane Lehman of Pine Grove had his sencond 200 yard game last week when he ran for 212 yards in their win over Salisbury.

QUARTERBACKS:

We had 7 qb’s throw for 200 yards last week led by Matt Machalik of Palmerton who threw for 345 yards and 3 td’s in their loss to North Schuylkill.  Machalik went over 2,000 yards on the season and leads the District with 2,006 yards and 26 td passes.  He needs 22 yards to reach the 4,000 yard mark for his career.  He’s also the school’s record holder in career td passes with 44.  In the same game, North Schuylkill’s Trevor Minalda threw for 205 yards and 3 td’s.  Danny Darno of Notre Dame threw for 343 yards and 4 td’s in their win over Jim Thorpe.  Darno moves into second place behind Machalik with his 1,782 yards passing and 19 td passes.  In the same game, Brett Balliet of Jim Thorpe threw for 327 yards and 5 td’s.  Matt Long holds the Thorpe single game yardage school record when he threw for 342 yards vs Pius X in 1999 and Cory Cinicola holds the single game td pass record when he threw 6 of them vs Northern Lehigh in 2007.  Jake Fotta of Emmaus threw for 257 yards and a td in their loss to Nazareth and is the school’s career td pass record holder with 26.  Brad Rissmiller of Pen Argyl threw for 256 yards and 4 td’s in their win over Schuylkill Haven.  Colby Mitchell of ES South had his second 200 yard game last week when he threw for 236 yards in their loss to PM West.  Isaac Whiteash of Williams Valley threw 4 td passes last week vs Marian Catholic and now has 17 on the season tying Sonny Sasso of Nazareth for third best in the District.

RECEIVERS:

Nick Ryan of Shenandoah Valley caught 11 passes for 172 yards and a td in their loss to Nativity.  The junior now has 75 career catches.  Mason Kuehner of Nazareth caught 11 passes for 106 yards in their win over Emmaus.  The junior now has 85 career catches.  Brady Evans of Williams Valley caught 2 more td passes last week and now has 10 on the season to lead the District.  Joey Flail caught 3 td passes last week and now has 9 on the season and is tied for second in the District with Palmerton’s Dan Lucykanish.  Lucykanish caught 9 passes for 141 yards and a td in their loss to North Schuylkill and teammate Cole Serfass caught 3 passes for 147 yards and 2 td’s.  Jim Thorpe also had 2 players rack up big totals as Salvatore Capria caught 7 passes for 138 yards and a td and David Fiorito caught 8 passes for 152 yards and 2 td’s in their loss to Notre Dame.  Damian Tyminski of Pen Argyl caught 5 passes for 139 yards and 3 td’s in their win over Schuylkill Haven.  He broke the career receiving yardage and career td reception record in the game.  Tyler Germano held the old yardage record when he accumulated 1,452 yards from 1998-00.  Germano’s teammate Kenny Watts held the old td record with the 12 he caught from 1998-00.  Tyminski’s career totals have him with 92 receptions for 1,546 yards and 13 td catches.  He currently leads the District for receptions (49) and yardage (766).  Karim Brice of Liberty went over 1,000 yards receiving for his career last week and now has 1,033 yards on 77 receptions.
