District 11 Top Returning Player WEEK 2

DISTRICT NOTES – WEEK 2:

 

RUNNINGBACKS: Antwon Keenan of Bethlehem Catholic rushed for 176 yards and a school record tying 5 td’s in their win over Pleasant Valley.  Keenan became the 6th Golden Hawk to score 5 td’s in a game.  Evan Culver of Saucon Valley rushed for 221 yards and 3 td’s in their win over Northern Lehigh.  Teammate Zach Thatcher rushed for 184 yards and a td.  Mike Stasko of Palmerton rushed for 166 yards and 3 td’s to take over the District 11 lead with 414 yards.  Stasko has scored 6 td’s on the season, one behind District 11 leader Kyle Boney of Emmaus.  Jamaal Brome of Stroudsburg also rushed for 166 yards and 3 more td’s in their win over PMW.  Brome now has 402 yards rushing and 6 td’s this season. Nasir Minney-Gratz of Easton rushed for 202 yards and 3 td’s In their win over Emmaus and also has 6 td’s on the season.  Bud Moyer of Tamaqua rushed for 208 yards and a school record tying 5 td’s in their win over Schuylkill Valley.  The other two players from Tamaqua to score 5 td in a game where Jim Hope in 1990 vs Minersville and Dalton Nunemacher in 2012 vs Allen.  Devin Irwin of Salisbury scored 4 td’s vs Palisades last week.  Irwin carried the ball 3 times for 71 yards and a td, caught 3 passes for 39 yards (2 td’s), and returned a kick-off 98 yards for another td.  Irwin also had an interception on defense and returned a punt 28 yards.  Roberto Diez of Freedom rushed for 170 yards and 3 td’s vs Nazareth.  Northwestern’s Harry Hall joins the “40 td” club with 40 exactly.

 

QUARTERBACKS: Southern Lehigh’s Blake Levengood threw 3 td’s last week and now leads the District with 7 td’s this season.  Doug Erney of Liberty threw 3 td’s for the second week in a row in their win over Allen.  Erney went over 5,000 yards (5,039) for his career and inches closer to Dan Persa’s school record of 5,875.  Julian Spigner of Bethlehem Catholic and Erney both have thrown 50 td passes in their careers.  Devante Cross of Parkland threw for 219 yards and 4 td’s in the first half in their win over Northampton.  Cross joins the “40 td club” and now has 43 career td passes.  Tevon Weber of Salisbury threw 4 td’s in their win over Palisades and now has 31 for his career.  Weber also went over 3,000 yards passing in his career (3,067).  Travis Stefanik of Nazareth threw for over 200 yards again with his 270 and 2 td’s in their loss to Freedom.  Tre Jordan of Notre Dame threw for 285 yards and 3 td’s in their win over Catasauqua.  Jordan needs 29 more yards to reach 5,000 for his career,

 

RECEIVERS:  Nick Basenese of Notre Dame caught 5 passes for 139 yards and a td in their win over Catasauqua.  Basenese now has 14 catches this year and is one behind District leader Julian Liaci of Nazareth.  Kenny Yeboah of Parkland caught 10 passes for 119 yards and 2 td’s last week.  Aaron Deangelo of Marian Catholic caught 7 passes for a school record 229 yards and 3 td’s.  Scott Holloman held the old record when he set school records of 9 catches for 185 yards in a District playoff win over Catasauqua in 1996.  Deangelo had only 8 catches for 219 yards and 3 td’s for the entire 2014 season.  Ethan Price of Southern Lehigh went over 1,000 yards receiving in his career (1,054).

 

OTHERS: In week one, Alkiohn Dunkins of Freedom returned 2 interceptions for td’s, totaling 176 yards against ESS.  Also in week one, Palmerton’s Toby Sander returned back to back kick-offs (88 and 80 yards) to start the game against Wilson.  Sandwiched between Sander’s two returns was Wilson’s Nick Maston returning a kick-off back 81 yards for a td.  In week two, Jim Thorpe’s freshman, Jarrin Geisinger returned back to back kick-offs for td’s (85 and 75 yards).
