District 11 Top Returning Players Week

DISTRICT 11 NOTES (Week 8):   

RUNNINGBACKS: 

Alex Achenbach of Williams Valley rushed for over 200 yards for the 6th time this year when he rushed for 228 yards and a td in week 8. Achenbach leads the District with 1,900 yards rushing this season. His career rushing total of 5,861 yards moves him up a spot into 7th place all-time in the District. He drops Austin Scott of Parkland down to 8th place. Scott rushed for 5,802 yards at Parkland from 2000-02. Achenbach has scored 71 career td’s, which moves him into a 15th place tie all-time in the District with Jason Killian of Schuylkill Haven (1989-91). Luke Stevenosky of Minersville rushed for 223 yards and 3 td’s in week 8 to up his season totals to 1,722 yards rushing and 27 td’s. Both totals are nearing school records. His 3 td’s last week also pushes his career total to a school record 51. Ed Siminitus held the old record when he scored 48 td’s from 1997-2000. Other District 11 players to score 51 td’s in their career were Brett Snyder of Northwestern (1993-95), Komlan Lonergan of Central Catholic (1995-97), Scott LaValva of Bangor (2007-10), and Kyle Boney of Emmaus (2013-15). Trey Tremba of Parkland and Colm McGroaty of Mahanoy Area have each scored 55 career td’s. Other District 11 players to score 55 td’s in their career are, Bob Tarola of Bethlehem Catholic (1965-67), John Gruver of Palisades (2005-08), and Darnell Ferrell of Central Catholic (2014-16). McGroaty has also tied the school record for career rushing attempts with his 600 totes. Ziggy Dudash had 600 rushing attempts from 1997-99. Dudash holds the school career record for rushing yards with 4,033 yards (6.72 per carry). Caden Henritzy of Northampton went over 3,000 yards rushing for his career (3,044) and has scored 45 career td’s. Henritzy has 485 career rushing attempts which breaks the school record of 479 attempts that Phil Hard had from 1997-00. Dalton Clymer of Northwestern also went over 3,000 career rushing yards last week. Clymer has rushed for 3,074 yards and has 48 career td’s. Parrish McFarland of Pottsville scored 4 td’s last week and also went over 2,000 yards rushing for his career (2,032 yards). Notre Dame’s Josh Ludlow scored 4 td’s in week 8 and now has 34 career td’s. Teammate Danny Darno reached 30 career td’s last week as did Payton Fasnacht of Blue Mountain. Matt Machalik of Palmerton rushed for 240 yards and 3 td’s in week 8 to up his season totals to 1,597 yards rushing and 27 td’s. Machalik has scored 85 career td’s which ties him for 7th place all-time in the District with Colin McDermott of Central Catholic (2010-12), and Shane Simpson of Easton (2011-14). Cade Sawyer of Southern Lehigh rushed for 204 yards and scored 4 td’s for the 5th time in a game this season. Sawyer went over 1,000 yards for the season (1,111) and has scored 27 td’s. Sawyer, Machalik, and Stevenosky all lead the District as each has scored 27 td’s this year. Nathan Gray of ES South rushed for 235 yards and 2 td’s last week pushing him over 1,000 yards rushing for the season (1,128). Aiden Myers of Schuylkill Haven also went over 1,000 yards rushing for the season (1,032). Glad to see Hunter Reitz of Catasauqua make the chart with his 1,015 career rushing yards. Reitz missed almost all of his sophomore and junior seasons due to injuries.

QUARTERBACKS:

Trey Dogmantis of Whitehall joined the “4,000 yard” club in week 8 and in the process broke the school career passing yardage record. Mike Gnall held the old record when he threw for 4,009 yards from 2002-05. Dogmantis has thrown for 4,052 yards so far. Peyton Falzone of Nazareth leads the District with his 1,661 yards passing. Darno of Notre Dame is a close 2nd with 1,602 yards. and also leads the District with 19 td passes. Darno has thrown for 4,841 career yards and is 5 yards away from cracking the top 40 on the all-time District list. He moved ahead of Tom Silvius of Nazareth who threw for 4,822 yards from 1986-88 and is 5 yards behind Robbie Moyer of ES South who threw for 4,875 yards from 2007-09. Machalik went over 1,000 yards passing for the 3rd season in a row. He’s thrown for 5,585 yards in his career and moves up 3 spots on the all-time District list. He moved ahead of Daniel Harding of Nazareth (5,541 yards from 2009-11), Julian Spigner of Bethlehem Catholic (5,538 yards from 2013-15), and Cazzie Kosciolek of Panther Valley (5,425 yards from 1989-92). Machalik has thrown 61 career td passes which ties him with Logan Edmond of Southern Lehigh for 18th place all-time in the District. He moved ahead of Dan Kendra III of Bethlehem Catholic (1991-94), and Travis Stefanik of Nazareth (2014-16) on the list as both threw 60 td’s in their careers. Darno has thrown 56 career td’s and is tied for 27th place a[[-time with Jake Hall of North Schuylkill who threw 56 td’s from 2018-21. Chase Walker of Freedom went over 1,000 yards passing for the season in week 8. The junior has thrown for 1,085 yards this season.

RECEIVERS:

After a subpar week 7 for the four 2,000 yard career receivers, they all had good statistical games in week 8. Joey Flail of North Schuylkill caught 8 passes for a school record 197 yards and 2 td’s. Robbie Clews held the old record when he had 166 receiving yards vs Tamaqua in 2005. Damian Tyminski of Pen Argyl caught 7 passes for 60 yards, Mason Kuehner of Nazareth caught 4 passes for 111 yards and 2 td’s, and Nick Ryan of Shenandoah Valley caught 9 passes for 90 yards and a td. Flail, Tyminski, and Jareel Calhoun of Central Catholic all went over 150 career receptions last week. They are only the 10th, 11th, and 12th players to reach that mark in the District. Calhoun, who is just a junior, went over the 1,500 yard mark for his career (1,502). Tristen Pinnock of Northampton went over 1,000 yards receiving for his career and now has 1,026 yards on 64 catches. Damian Tyminski leads the District with 45 receptions and Justin Yescavage of Jim Thorpe is a close 2nd with 44 receptions and also leads in reception yardage with his 862 yards. Nick Ryan of Shenandoah Valley leads the District with 11 td catches. Carter Vassa of Bethlehem Catholic is only the 3rd freshman in District 11 to have 500 receiving yards. Jahan Dotson of Nazareth has the freshman record with his 692 yards that he had in 2014. Shane Simpson of Easton has the 2nd best season with his 679 yards that he had in 2011. Vassa has 510 receiving yards this season, and 7 td grabs, which is the 2nd highest total in the District behind Dotson’s 9 td catches. Four new players made the chart in week 8 with 500 career receiving yards and they are, Conner Johns (Parkland), Ty Sander (Palmerton), Carter Vassa (Bethlehem Catholic), and Joe Roth (Lehighton).

Career reception District 11 rankings: Joey Flail (North Schuylkill) 155 catches (8th place all-time), Damian Tyminski (Pen Argyl) 153 catches (tied for 9th place) with Zack Gillen of Wilson (2018-21), Jareel Calhun of Central Catholic 151 catches (11th place), and Mason Kuehner (Nazareth) 147 catches (13th place).

Career reception yardage District 11 rankings: Flail 2,608 yards (8th best), Tyminski 2,433 yards (11th best), Kuehner 2,272 yards (15th best), Nick Ryan of Shenandoah Valley 2,129 yards (tied for 19th place all-time with Tim Walter of Southern Lehigh 2014-16).

Career reception td’s: Flail 39 (3rd best all-time), Ryan 26 (tied for 23th best ) with Owen Daniel of Williams Valley (2010-12), Matt Kistler of Tamaqua (2016-19), and Christian Sapp of ES South (2018-20).
