DISTRICT NOTES – WEEK 11:

RUNNING BACKS:   Evan Culver of Saucing Valley went over 2,000 yards rushing for the season last week.  Culver now has 2,125 yards rushing on the season which is 10 yards behind Saucon’s record holder Nick Savant.  Savant racked up 2,135 yards in 12 games in 2013.  Culver is also the career leader at Saucon with 4,128 yards rushing and has scored a total of 63 td’s.  Wyatt Clements of Lehighton scored 2 td’s in their win over Blue Mountain and now has 64 career td’s.  Clements was held under 100 yards for the first time this year.  He now needs exactly 100 yards to reach 4,000 yards for his career.  Culver and Clements will square off on Saturday night, as both players also start on defense.  The two have combined to rush for 8,028 career yards and score 127 td’s.  Harry Hall of Northwestern has 59 career td’s moving him into a 32nd place tie all-time in the District with Brendan Nosovitch of Central Catholic.  Hall has 4,969 yard rushing for his career moving him ahead of Nick Frantz of Pine grove and into 9th place all-time.  Kyle Boney of Emmaus rushed for 311 yards and 7 td’s in their win over Williamsport.  Boney now has a District leading 2,313 yards rushing.  That breaks Andrew Davidson’s one year old school record of 2,042 yards.  Boney’s 7 td’s also breaks the school record of 6 td’s and gives him a District leading 37 for the year.  Both Joe Williams in 2010 and Boney himself (earlier this year) each scored 6 td’s in a game.  He now has 47 career td’s which breaks the school record of 45 td’s previously held by CJ Billera (2006-08).  Nysir Minney-Gratz of Easton now has 1,796 yards rushing this year, moving him into 3rd place at Easton for a single season.  Brad Piperata moves down to 4th place with his 1,775 yards that he rushed for in 2003.  Mitch Daniel of Notre Dame went over 1,000 yards rushing for the season and now has 1,041 on the year.  KJ Snerr of Marian Catholic also went over 1,000 yards and now has 1,066 yards.  Snerr scored all 3 td’s last week and now has 19 on the season.  Robert Heller of Jim Thorpe became the second Olympian to rush for over 3,000 yards in a career.  Heller went over 3,000 in the last game of his career and finished with 3,038 yards.  Jason Figura holds the school record when he rushed for 3,403 yards in his career (2001-04).  Heller finished with 20 td’s this year (2nd best to Figura’s 24) and 35 td’s for his career (4th best).  His 1,483 yards rushing fell 87 yards short of the school record held by Ryan Saunders.  Antwon Keenan of Bethlehem Catholic finish the season scoring 33 td’s which is 3rd best all-time at the school.  Austyn Borre of Pleasant Valley finishes his career, scoring 66 td’s, while piling up 4,295 rushing yards and 1,052 receiving yards.  He moves into a tie for 14th place all-time in the District with his 66 career td’s.  Tosh Riddick (Dieruff), Eddie Scipio (Beth. Catholic) and William Casella of Schuylkill Haven all scored 66 td’s in their careers.  Lenny Dulsky and Mason Ryan of Mahanoy Area finish the year with 1,190 and 1,120 yards rushing respectfully.  Both players scored 15 td’s this year. Jamaal Brome of Stroudsburg finished his junior season rushing for 1,646 yards and scoring 23 td’s.

QUARTERBACKS:  Tre Jordan of Notre Dame leads the District with 2,771 passing yards.  Tevon Weber of Salisbury and Travis Stefanik of Nazareth lead the District with 28 td passes each.  Both players seasons are over.  Weber finishes his career with 4,267 yards passing and 53 td passes.  His yardage places him in 2nd place all-time at Salisbury while his td passes are a school record.  Stefanik threw for 237 yards and 4 td’s vs Wyoming Valley West.  Stefanik finished the season throwing for 2,346 yards and 28 td’s.  Both are 2nd best at Nazareth behind record holder Dan Harding.  Stefanik will enter his senior year with 3,296 yards passing and 39 td passes.  Doug Erney of Liberty threw for 230 yards and 3 td’s in their win over Stroudsburg.  Erney has thrown for 1,874 yards and 24 td passes so far this season.  His 24 td’s ties the school record held by Dan Persa (2006) and himself (last year).  Devante Cross of Parkland needs 49 yards to reach 2,000 yards passing for the second year in a row.  Blake Levengood of Southern Lehigh threw for 243 yards and 2 td’s in their win over Jim Thorpe.  Levengood now has 2,258 yards passing and 26 td passes for the season.  Ethan Kuczynski of Marian Catholic and Dylan Snyder of Northwestern went over 1,000 yards passing for the season and will continue to add to their totals in District 11 championship games this weekend.  Bobby Grigas of North Schuylkill finishes his career holding every major career passing record.  Grigas ended completing 249 passes for 4,489 yards and 55 td’s.  Joe Young of Freedom will enter his senior year, throwing for 2,467 yards and 18 td passes.  Jake Jakobson of Stroudsburg fell short of becoming the first Mountaineer to throw for 3,000 yards in a career.  Jakobson finished his school record career with 2,933 yards passing and 41 td passes.  Tyler Cann of Lehighton needs 70 yards passing to reach 4,000 yards for his career.  Julian Spigner of Bethlehem Catholic finishes his career throwing for 5,538 yards passing and 57 td passes.  Spigner’s yardage is 3rd best at the school while his 57 td’s is 3 short of the school record.  Dan Kendra III is still the record holder in both categories (6,087 yards passing and 60 td passes).  Nick Rodichok of Williams Valley didn’t play in their District playoff game last week and ends his career throwing for 3,655 yards and 34 td passes.

Looking at the career passing charts for District 11: Tre Jordan moves up to 4th place all-time with his 7,280 yards.  Doug Erney of Liberty moves into 7th place with his 6,512 yards.  Julian Spigner of Bethlehem Catholic moves into 17th place with his 5,538 yards, just 3 yards behind Dan Harding of Nazareth.  Devante Cross of Parkland moves up to 20th place with his 5,354 yards.  Bobby Grigas is in 36th place, 2 yards behind Nathan Hood of Pen Argyl.  Weber is in 41st and Ian McCole of Shenandoah Valley is in 46th place.  For career td passes: Jordan now has 80 career td’s which is 3rd best all-time.  The top 2 spots belong to Brendan Nosovitch of Central Catholic (106) and Tyler Smith of Wilson (87).  Erney has 68 career td’s, good enough for 8th place.  Spigner (57), Grigas (55), Cross (55) and Jakobson (41) didn’t throw for a td last week.  All of their careers are now over except for Cross, who will face Easton this week.

RECEIVERS:  Jahan Dotson caught 6 passes for 172 yards and 4 td’s last week.  He holds on to his District lead with 65 receptions.  Dotson finishes his sophomore season with 1,174 yards receiving and 16 td receptions.  All 3 totals this year for Dotson break District records for a sophomore.  Jeff McGeehin of Central Catholic had 54 catches in 1971, Kevin Gulyas also of Central Catholic had 881 yards in 2009 and Tim Massaquoi of Parkland had 12 td catches in 1998 as a sophomore.  Nick Basenese of Notre Dame now has 62 catches which ties the school record held by Robbie Harper since 1982.  Ethan Price of Southern Lehigh leads the District in reception yardage with 1,248 yards.  Price’s 1,964 career receiving yards puts him in 16th place all-time in the District.  He’s 21 yards away from cracking the top 15 (Zach Bogoly of Wilson has 1,985 yards).  Marcello Riccardi of Stroudsburg caught 5 passes last week vs Liberty to break the single season reception record at Stroudsburg.  Riccardi ended the year with 44 catches, one more than Donovan McDonald had in 2012.  Riccardi’s single season school record totals are 44 receptions for 832 yards and 13 td catches.  He finishes his career with school records of 64 catches for 1,205 yards and 17 td catches.  Nate Stewart of Bethlehem Catholic finishes his career with 160 career catches for 2,777 yards and 33 td catches.  The catches is 3rd best all-time, the yardage is 2nd best all-time and the 33 td’s is 3rd best all-time.  Joel Santana of Shenandoah Valley finishes his junior year catching a school record 62 passes.  Santana caught 6 passes for 194 yards and 2 td’s in their win over Nativity.  Tevon Murray of North Schuylkill finishes his career with 85 catches for 1,577 yards and a school record 27 td catches.  Kenny Yeboah of Parkland has a personal best 50 catches this year and needs 3 more to reach 100 for his career.  Mason Donaldson of Salisbury finishes his career with 95 catches for 1,420 yards and a school record 22 td catches.

Week 11 Trivia:  Robert Heller of Jim Thorpe ended his career scoring 35 td’s.  Name the 3 Olympians that have scored more than 35 td’s in their careers.

Week 10 Trivia:  Which running back in the District has the most 300 yard rushing games? Colin McDermott (Central Catholic), James Mungro (ES South), Austin Scott (Parkland), Franklyn Quiteh (PM West) or Zack Barket (Schuylkill Haven).  Austin Scott had 4 games with over 300 yards rushing.  Barket, McDermott and Quiteh all had 3 and surprisingly Mungro only had 2.

Week 9 Trivia:

Austyn Borre of Pleasant Valley has caught 20 or more passes in all four years.  Name the other 3 players that have accomplished this.  Matt Camilletti of Pius X (36, 36, 53, 58), OJ Grow of Williams (30, 34, 26, 60) and Nate Stewart of Pius X & Bethlehem Catholic (23, 26, 81, 25).

Week 8 Trivia: Aaron Weller of Notre Dame has 9 td catches this year. Name the 2 former teammates that currently share the school record with 10 td catches each. Greg Machia in 1990 and Aaron Cerrone in 1991.

Week 7 Trivia:  Name the 2 current head coaches in District 11 that rushed for 1,000 yards in a season for a District 11 team. Josh Snyder of Northwestern did it twice.  In 1996, he rushed for 1,102 yards and in 1997, he rushed for 1,395 yards.  Current North Schuylkill head coach Wally Hall rushed for 1,175 yards in his junior year for Shenandoah Valley in 1992.

Week 6 Trivia:  Ethan Price of Southern Lehigh leads the District with 9 td catches this year.  Price is tied with 2 other players at Southern Lehigh.  Name those 2 players.  Price was tied with Dave Wood and Jeff Smillie.  Wood had 9 in 1974 and Smillie had 9 in 2010.  Price had a td catch last week and now has 10 this year, tying Jake Meluskey’s school record.  Meluskey, a fullback, set the record in 2011 when he caught 32 passes for 508 yards and the 10 td’s.  Meluskey also rushed for 1,139 yards and another 9 td’s.

Week 5 Trivia:  Which one of these Salisbury receivers is tied with current Falcon Mason Donaldson for the most career td catches.  Antoine Hubbard, John Gardus, Andrew Haldeman, Joey Remmel, Chris Burda, Doug Durepo, Scott Gardus or Jesse Phillips.  John Gardus had 14 td catches.  He had 7 in 2006 and 7 more in 2007. Hubbard and Haldeman each had 12 td catches in their careers.

Week 4 Trivia:  Tevon Murray, a 6’6″ wide receiver from North Schuylkill didn’t catch one of Bobby Grigas’ 3 td passes last week vs Marian Catholic.  That snapped a streak of 11 consecutive games with a td catch.  The District 11 record is 14 consecutive games.  Who holds the record? Kevin Gulyas of Central Catholic.  The streak started in 2010 with the playoffs.  Gulyas caught a td in all 6 playoff games including their win over Bishop McDevitt in the State final.  He then caught a td pass in the first 8 games of the 2011 season.  His streak ended when they played in a snow storm vs Allen.  With Central up 33-0 at halftime, the game was called.  Gulyas caught the only 2 completions from Brendan Nosovitch for 6 yards.

Week 3 Trivia:  Jahan Dotson of Nazareth broke the District 11 record for most catches for a player in their freshman and sophomore seasons.  Dotson has 75 catches so far in his career.  Who held the old record with 72 catches?  Matt Camilletti of Pius X (2008-09).

Week 2 Trivia: Name the only pair of brothers from District 11 to each rush for over 1,000 yards in the same season.  Joe and Jim Agosti of Marian Catholic did the trick in 1976.  Senior Joe, rushed for 1,050 yards and 8 td’s, while brother Jim, a junior rushed for 1,274 yards and 23 td’s (both school records at the time).  Jim would go over 1,200 yards again as a senior in 1977.  Jim totaled 142 points in 1976 to break the old Carbon County scoring record that was held since 1956.  Eddie Kocha of Nesquehoning (also a junior) scored 141 points in 9 games.  The year before in 1975, Marian also had 2 players rush for 1,000 yards each.  Pete Albano rushed for 1,268 yards and Fred Segilia rushed for 1,038 yards.  The head coach for the 1975 and 1976 seasons was Chuck Rocconi.  The following year, Stan Dakosky took over the team and is now in his 38th year.

Week 1 Trivia: Ethan Price of Southern Lehigh also broke the District 11 single game receiving yardage record with his 296 yards.  Who held the old District record? Kevin Gulyas (2011 vs Parkland) of Central Catholic and Quintin Lopez (2004 vs Southern Columbia) of Pius X both had 280 yards in a game.
