DISTRICT 11 NOTES (week 9):
RUNNINGBACKS:
Four players hit the 1,000 yard rushing mark in week 9. Marian Catholic’s sophomore Rory Dixon went over 1,000 yards for the 2nd time in his career (1,084 yards). Minersville’s junior Dante Carr has 1,124 rushing yards this season. North Schuylkill’s junior Luke Miller has 1,158 yards this season, and Fletcher Thompson of Williams Valley became just the 5th freshman in District 11 to rush for 1,000 yards in a season. He joins Jordan Gray of Nazareth (1,663 yards in 2011), Austyn Borre of Pleasant Valley (1,257 yards in 2012), James Mungro of ES South (1,233 yards in 1993), and Dixon had 1,005 yards last year. Dixon (2,089 yards), and Carr (2,081 yards), went over 2,000 yards rushing in their careers in week 9 as did Jared Rohn of Saucon Valley (2,084 yards), and Eli Zimmerman of Northwestern (2,011 yards). Niko Carestia of Schuylkill Haven leads the District with 1,965 yards rushing and 27 td’s scored this season. Zachary Deresky-martinez of ES North rushed for 233 yards and 4 td’s in their win over PM East. Carr also scored 4 td’s in week 9 giving him 22 total for the season. Kyler Quick of Mahanoy Area rushed for 206 yards and scored 3 td’s in their win over Panther Valley. Marquez Wimberly of Nazareth scored 5 td’s in their win over Northampton. Wimberly rushed for 110 yards and 3 td’s while also catching 5 passes for 132 yards and 2 td’s. Seven players joined the chart in week 9 including 2 more quarterbacks. Qb’s Peyton Falzone of Nazareth (1,071 yards), and Luke Kane of Tamaqua (1,003 yards), along with backs TJ Lawrence of Parkland (1,088 yards), Tyler Stahley of Blue Mountain (1,074 yards), Cole Gemberling of Tri-Valley (1,061 yards), Sam Walborn of Nativity (1,030 yards), and previously mentioned freshman Fletcher Thompson with his 1,048 yards.
QUARTERBACKS:
Peyton Falzone of Nazareth threw for 293 yards and 3 td’s in week 9 and joined the “4,000 yard” club in the process. The junior has thrown for 4,249 career yards and 36 career td passes. Shane Leh of Northwestern threw 4 td passes in week 9 giving him 42 for his career. Antonio Fontanez of Liberty threw 2 td passes in their win over Bethlehem Catholic to give him 30 for his career. Matt Bodnar of Notre Dame threw for 425 yards and 4 td’s in their win over Palmerton. Bodnar went over 3,000 yards passing on the season and currently leads the District with 3,403 yards. Bodnar also leads the District with his 34 td passes. Brady Shomper of Williams Valley threw for 245 yards and 4 td’s in their win over Shenandoah Valley. Shomper has thrown for 1,679 yards and 24 td passes this season. The junior went over 2,000 yards for his career (2,243 yards), and also went over 30 career td passes (33). Five more players went over 1,000 yards passing for the season. They are Tanner Dogmantis of Whitehall (1,127 yards), Jerel Simms of PM West (1,054 yards), Cayden Vassa of Bethlehem Catholic (1,046 yards), Jayse Lawrence of LehIghton (1,038 yards), and Garrett Smoyer of Northern Lehigh (1,029 yards). Dogmantis and Simms along with Andrew Lucas of Salisbury (1,044 yards) joined the chart this week. Chase Walker of Freedom had his 7th game over 200 yards passing in week 9. Walker threw for 228 yards and 1 td in their loss to Easton. Walker is 2nd in the District behind Bodnar with 1,842 yards passing. Peter Albano of Saucon Valley threw for 230 yards and 2 td’s in their loss to Southern Lehigh. Cole Lazorick of Jim Thorpe threw for 255 yards and 2 td passes while also rushing for 2 td’s in their win over Bangor.
RECEIVERS:
Jack Robertson of Saucon Valley caught 8 passes for 145 yards and a td vs Southern Lehigh. Robertson has 11 td catches this season which ties the school record that Alstan Wolfe holds (11 in 2016). Robertson’s career school record grows to 25 career td grabs. Ethan Dudsak of Stroudsburg leads the District with 54 receptions. Following Dudsak’s 54 catches are Kian Krzyzanowski of Williams Valley and Victor Schlosser of Tamaqua. Both players have 49 catches this season. Justin Yescavage of Jim Thorpe is one behind them with 48 catches. Yescavage also joined the “2,000 yard” receiving club in week 9 and has 125 career receptions for 2,072 yards and 14 td grabs. Krzyzanowski leads the District with 13 td catches and also takes over the District receiving yardage lead with his 924 yards. Xzavier Pusateri of ES South drops to 2nd with 874 receiving yards. Six players went over 1,000 yards in their careers in week 9. They are Mason Bollinger of Northwestern (1,084 yards), Kamari Coleman of Stroudsburg (1,051 yards), Aidan Sorrentino of Central Catholic (1,049 yards), Tsirell Curry of Pottsville (1,028 yards), Brady Behr of PM West (1,014 yards), and Michael Gelatko of Marian Catholic (1,004 yards).
