The Dunmore Bucks have had a quite a run of success as a team recently, winning three consecutive District 2 “AA” championships and reaching the 2007 PIAA “AA” state finals.
One of Dunmore’s returning offensive linemen is seeing some individual success, as he is generating a lot of Division-1 interest.
Paul Gaughan, a 6’6, 280-pound senior-to-be for the Bucks, has reached eight Division-1 offers, according to his profile on Rivals.com. Gaughan is one of three D-1 offensive line prospects in PA’s 2011 recruiting class from the District 2 region – Brandon Clemons (Delaware Valley) and Stanford commit Kevin Reihner (Scranton Prep) are the other.
Gaughan has received offers from Buffalo, Indiana, Kent State, Maryland, Northwestern, Stanford, Syracuse and Wisconsin, according to Rivals. Notre Dame, Penn State and Pitt are showing interest, also according to Rivals.
Gaughan helped pave the way for a Buck offense that featured 1,800-yard rusher Michael Perry and quarterback Dave Olivetti, who amassed more than 1,000 yards of total offense. Perry finished his career with more than 6,000 rushing yards and will continue playing football at Bryant College.
Dunmore averaged 31.4 points and 311 yards of offense per game last season – nearly 251 of those yards came on the ground.
The Bucks finished the 2009 season with a 12-1 overall record, winning the school’s fifth District 2 “AA” championship in the process. In the last three years, Dunmore has posted an overall record of 37-5 (.880).
