The third week of the 2008 season features several contests that may determine not only league titles but playoff positions later this year. The one contest that cannot be ignored has two undefeated and top ranked teams facing off as St Joe Prep travels to take on top ranked North Penn in Ed Thomas’ Southeastern Pa Top Twenty
Over the last two seasons a little bit of observation and a lot of luck have allowed for a prediction record of 105-36. This season has also been kind with an 8-2 run on the line coming into the third week.
Last week the upset of Interboro by Monsignor Bonner ruined what could have been a perfect week of prognostication. Garnet Valley, Strath Haven, North Penn and Souderton all won as predicted but none of this weeks games will easy calls.
It is now time for this weeks fearless forecast.
Prediction: North Penn 27 St Joe Prep 14
The Knights hold on to the undefeated record behind running back Tyler Smith with the support of a more experienced squad than the Hawks can field this early in the season. The home field is yet another advantage to get North Penn over the top in this hard fought contest.
These two teams could easily see each other again come playoff time. This game will provide a great preview.
Prediction: Glenn Mills 28 Pennsbury 24
This is one tough call. Pennsbury enters the game with with a 2-0 record after two close calls to open the season. They are riding some momentum with second half comebacks over Archbishop Ryan and Frankford. However Bernard Pierce can be a game changer and this week he will run the Bulls to an upset win at home.
Prediction: Haverford 31 Penncrest 19
Early season Central League showdown of quarterbacks Matt Atkinson of Penncrest and Liam McGrath of Haverford will be a real slug fest but the Fords ride a home field advantage to victory.
