EASTON – Jasiyah Banks’ three rushing touchdowns and Josiah Williams’ running and passing attack led the Emmaus Green Hornets over Easton Area 42-14 Friday night at Cottingham Stadium.

“Banks was great tonight and he had the mindset to get into the end zone tonight,” said Harold Fairclough. “He gave a great effort tonight rushing the ball.”

It was a big win for Emmaus. Currently they are fourth in the PIAA District 2-4-11 subregional power rankings and Easton is hanging onto the eighth seed.

Easton Area scored first Friday night. Logan Braido picked off a Josiah Williams pass and went 15 yards for a pick-six to give the Red Rovers a 6-0 lead in the first quarter.

Emmaus answered back. The Green Hornets capped off a 12-play, 72-yard drive. Jasiyah Banks scored from one yard out and Will Buck added an extra point to put the Hornets up 7-6 with 9:03 left in the first half.

Right before halftime, Banks scored his second rushing touchdown of the first half. The one-yard touchdown run gave the Green Hornets the lead, 14-6 at the half.

In the second half, Emmaus’ offense took over. The Green Hornets extended their lead to 35-6 on three scores in the third quarter. Josiah Williams threw a laser to John Wassel for an 18-yard touchdown pass. Banks scored his third rushing touchdown of the game, this time from 11 yards out. Cael Kratzer caught a pass and ran down the sidelines for a 51-yard touchdown play.

The Green Hornets offensive line (Mario Landino, Ben Mercado, Thomas Ashelman, George Attar, Brody Mchugh) opened big holes and gave Williams time to throw the ball all night.

“A lot of those guys play both ways,” said Harold Fairclough. “They were a little gassed at the end but they kept fighting all night.”

Easton got a touchdown early in the fourth quarter. Cole Ordway threw a perfect pass in the corner of the end zone and Jasir Frutchey made the catch for an eight-yard score. Ordway’s two-point conversion made it 35-14.

“Our defense got back on track the past couple of weeks,” said Harold Fairclough. “We gave up a late touchdown and tonight we were flying to the ball and making plays.”

Williams added on one last score from five yards out. He finished the night passing for 181 yards, two touchdowns, and rushed for 57 yards and a score.

“He keeps getting better and better each week,” said Harold Fairclough. “You can see each week he is getting more confident.”
