Minus quarterback Eric Van Wyk, the Jaguars return their entire starting backfield from a team which finished 13-2 and as PIAA runners-up to Thomas Jefferson.  Tim Keyser, Jared Bonaquisti, and Chris Palaio combined for well over 2,500 rushing yards last season.  Wingback Keyser was also GV’s leading receiver with nearly 800 yards on over 40 receptions.  Plus, there aren’t many District 1 “AAAA” teams that run GV’s option-oriented offense.  You see the direction this is headed.  GV has a good chance to win District 1 and get to its second-straight Eastern final.

  1. I will say that GV had a great team last year. That backfield is very talented. It should be interesting to see how they do in a tougher Central League. They will be beat up but should be battle tested for states. I think that Haven is going to be a surprise this year and I look forward to the rematch. Lets see how thy do against AAAA talent..

  2. and whats the QB situation gonna be because i hear your starter mischler or something went down? can they still be successful without him?

  3. OK, first off WC.. you obviously have no idea about the Garnet Valley Football program. If they were so “overrated” then I guess they probably wouldn’t have made it to State last year. Those boys work so incredibly hard on and off the field and deserve every last bit of their success. I hope, and know, that they will continue such a great legacy again this year and wish them nothing but the best. Get it done boys.. GO JAGS!!

  4. AAAA at the playoff level is quite different then playing AAA especially when AAA has a down year in the East like last year. Maybe a return trip to Districts but after that I believe a short lived existence in playoffs!

  5. Garnet Valley will face tough teams during the regular season (Ridley, Conestoga, Upper Darby) so they will be tested. With that said, most people questioned their playoff readiness last year with only Unionville posing a threat in the regular season, but they rose to the occasion in the playoffs and proved a lot of people wrong. Along with their talent, Garnet Valley has one of the best coaching staff’s in the state. This was on display when they beat a much more talented West Scranton team in the state quarterfinals last season. So everyone can doubt during the regular season, but the players and coaches produce results and that is all that matters.

  6. GV is going to have it too easy in the regular season. It looks like the Central League is going to have a down year. Marple, Strath Haven, Haverford, Conestoga and Ridley Graduated a lot of good Seniors last year. Also Once they get to the playofffs this year keep in mind that they will be AAAA not AAA this year. There is a big diffrence between playing small schools like Harrinton, Springfield and Radnor as opposed to playing Neshamany, North Penn and Easton.

  7. The garnet valley football team is epic and possibly the best team in the state this year, yes they have had a set back with Mishler but i heard he may b back within a couple weeks and don’t forget they have a whole returning backfield i will jocundly watch the jags trample over competition this season

    sincerly,
    A gv Fan

  8. well theyre not the athlete as Mishler is and its ashame that he cant be in the same backfield as Keyser. One of the best athletes in the county he should bounce back and get the job done for the JAGS!!

    Sincerly,

    Worried in Glen Mills

  9. i heard QB Matt Mishler went down with an injured collarbone? its ashame and hopefully he can get back in time for a state championship run
