Three members of the 2008 Garnet Valley Jaguars recently signed letters of intent to play at West Chester.
Come the spring of 2010, the Jaguars could be watching one of its own sign a Division-1 letter of intent.
Senior-to-be Marcellus Irving, a running back/wide receiver combination for the Delaware County-based school, has interest, but no offers, from seven D-1 programs, according to Rivals.com.
The Garnet Valley back has interest from Boston College, Maryland, Penn State, Pitt, Syracuse, Temple, and Akron.
Irving is one of 12 Pennsylvania running backs that are D-1 prospects in the Class of 2010. He posted the fifth-highest rushing total on the team last season, averaging just under seven yards per carry and scoring five touchdowns. Irving also caught seven passes for 122 yards and a touchdown. He averaged over 17 yards per reception.
Garnet Valley has been one of the more dominant teams in the scope of District 1 the last three years. The Jaguars won District 1 “AAA” championships in 2006 & 2007, and reached the state title game versus Thomas Jefferson fourteen months ago.
After Garnet Valley was forced to move up to “AAAA” due to an increase in enrollment figures, the Jags wasted little time in proving they belonged. GV went 12-1, reaching the D1 “AAAA” semifinals before falling to Neshaminy.
Garnet Valley has won 25 of its last 28 games, and has averaged 31.7 points per game since the start of 2007.
