When you talk about elite players in Pennsylvania, you have to mention Bishop McDevitt’s Nazir Burnett.

In 2018, he caught 78 passes for 1,746 yards and 25 receiving touchdowns while facing double teams and eight games where he was taken out at halftime or the third quarter.

It’s mind boggling when you think he only played two quarters a game most of the time. Most receiving yards in a season is held by another McDevitt alum. Brian Lemelle in 2011 had 2,630 yards. Imagine if Burnett played all four quarters of each game. We may have been talking about a new receiving record in Pennsylvania.

“Nazir had the confidence that nobody could cover him one on one this season,” said Head Football Coach Jeff Weachter. “He possesses good size, 6’2 and runs a 4.4 with the large catch radius with natural hands. He runs the whole route better than anyone I have ever coached. College coaches that visited McDevitt in the spring, that watched him run routes in person were amazed. He is very smooth running routes and is excellent getting in and out of breaks.”
