Hard to believe but after this weekend local teams will have completed the first half of the 2012 regular season. Some fans are already taking a peak at playoff points. Raw calculations have Downingtown East, Garnet Valley, Ridley, Central Bucks South and Spring-Ford leading the AAAA District One pack for playoff slots at this time. With more than half the season left to play there is plenty of time for teams hot on the heels of these top squads to surpass them before the start of post season action.

The playoff push is not limited to District One as Philadelphia Catholic League District Twelve rivals will be fighting for an early season advantage as well. Archbishop Wood, Cardinal O’ Hara, LaSalle and St Joseph Prep are all looking forward to their shot at a Pa state title run.

Week four predictions went well as this future teller went 4-1 as Ridley, Archbishop Wood, Souderton and Downingtown East all won as predicted while Academy Park was unable to stay with Pennridge to account for the lone miscalculation.

The last six years the prognostication record stands at 279-108 while going 12-3 for the 2012 season.

This fifth week of the season offers another great set of games for local fans to check out.

In the Philadelphia Catholic League AAA Division a key matchup will feature Cardinal O’Hara entertaining Archbishop Wood for the first night game ever played at Lions Stadium.  O’Hara is coming off an impressive 56-20 win over cross-town rival Archbishop Carroll last Saturday afternoon. The Lions passing game was the key to victory as wide receiver Thaddius Smith was targeted for seven catches, 157 yards and four TD’s by QB Dashawn Darden. The Archbishop Wood Vikings enter this contest as the favorite. The Vikings relied on their running attack as Andrew Guckin led the way with 119 total yards and three touchdowns over the stingy West Catholic defense last Friday night for a 27-6 victory. Count on the steady running attack of Wood to rule the night at O’Hara.

  1. Great article Joe and you got hurt by two really big upsets. Springfield and Penncrest. Nobody can fault you for getting those two wrong. Let’s see how these two up and coming teams can finish out the second half of the season. The Springfield win will supply them with a huge amount of playoff points. See you at the next big game.
