The 2015 high school football season opened last Friday with summer like temperatures with high humidity to test the conditioning of this year’s young football warriors. The teams that survive the early season heat to make the playoffs will face a different weather challenge in December but it will all be worth it if they are still in the title hunt.
This new group of talented young men have high hopes to attain the thrill that St Joe Prep, Archbishop Wood, South Fayette and Bishop Guilfoyle all experienced in Hershey in 2014. The long journey to Chocolate Town all started last Friday and another exciting season lies before us.
This will mark the tenth season I have attempted to forecast the five toughest games each week. The last nine years the prognostication record stands at 417-178 while going 53-21 last season
This early in the season it is always difficult to pick the top games to feature but let’s give it the old high school try.
St. Joseph’s Prep at Don Bosco Prep (NJ)
This is a true battle of football titans, the Hawks are the defending Pa four A champions and they return with a powerhouse line up again this year. Outstanding running back D’Andre Swift will be impossible to slow down on both sides of the line.
St. Joseph Prep 34 Don Bosco Prep 24
Pennsbury at LaSalle
The Pennsbury Falcons survived a 13-6 struggle over Council Rock South as Rob Daly and Zeek Kershaw saved the night with TD runs. The LaSalle Explorers used a big play offense including a 50 yard TD strike from QB Chris Ferguson to wide receiver Winston Eubanks and a 24-12 win over North Penn. The LaSalle offense will continue to roll on in this contest
LaSalle 38 Pennsbury 19
Ridley at Springfield
The Ridley Green Raiders pounded Glen Mills 30-0 with Christian Dunn running through the Bulls defense. The Springfield Cougars needed the speed of Kyle Long to slip past Interboro 14-9. Always tough to pick against Ridley but Springfield defense may be up to the challenge.
Springfield 18 Ridley 14
