On Monday afternoon, Harriton’s Athletic Director Tom Ferguson announced the hiring of Justin Mellor as the new head football coach, taking over for Matt Barr.
Justin Mellor spent the last 12 years as the defensive coordinator for Haverford High School. “I graduated college in 1998 and I got a job that September at Haverford High. I have been here the last 15 years,” said Mellor.
Mellor takes over a team that finished 5-5 in 2012. Harriton’s last season was led by senior quarterback Patrick Moriarty who committed to West Chester University.
Mellor can build on this year’s team with returning running back Andre Pendleton. He rushed for 715 yards and eight touchdowns and also led his team in receiving with 11 catches for 271 yards and three scores.
“I haven’t had a chance to sit down and talk to all the players yet. I will be having a meeting next week with the players.”
About Mellor
Mellor is currently a math teacher at Haverford High School and also served as the school JV baseball coach before stepping down from that position a few days ago.
Mellor received a Bachelor’s degree from Indiana University and earned a Master’s degree from Wilkes University. He went to Upper Dublin High School and played football, baseball and basketball.
