We enter the fourth week of the high school football season and a quick check of the calendar tells us that Summer ends this weekend. The Autumn chill has arrived early this year so this will provide for perfect football weather this Friday and Saturday.
It is now time to dive right in with predictions on five of the most competitive contests this week.
Week three predictions went moderately well with 3 out 5 game winners. Garnet Valley, West Chester Rustin and St. Joseph Prep all coming through while Chichester’s comeback surge fell eight points short to Delaware County Christian while Pennsbury outlasted Downingtown East to account for the missed calls.
The last seven years the prognostication record stands at 324-132 while going 7-3 for this season.
This Friday features a battle of two undefeated teams that have shown some early season promise. Academy Park of the Del Val League will host the Pennridge Rams of Suburban One League Continental Conference. The Rams enter this contest after sweeping past Council Rock South 49-20 last Thursday night. Pennridge rode a balanced attack as running back Mike Class rushed for 128 yards and 4 TDs while QB Matt Pasquale passed for 158 yards and two TDs during this impressive win. The following night it was time for the Academy Park Knights to shine. Running back Jerry Lanier was on fire running for 174 yards and two touchdowns all in the first half. This contest will be a high scoring affair and just may come down to Homecoming motivation for the Knights.
Academy Park 41 Pennridge 37
A few miles west of the Academy Park game Central League rivals will meet as Ridley travels to Springfield. The Ridley Green Raiders own a lopsided advantage in this series but have opened the season 1-2 while the Cougars have jumped out of the starting gate 3-0. Springfield last defeated Ridley in 1994 and will need the careful direction of QB Charlie Carbin to break into the win column for this series. The Green Raiders will be hungry as they have the highest winning percentage of all Pa High School football teams and a loss is never acceptable. This is one of those rare years that the Cougars have a shot against the Green Mystique. Count on the home crowd to guide them to a win.
Springfield 27 Ridley 21

Springfield had no offense and Academy Park just wore down in 2nd half.
