“Gamp” Pellegrini, the longtime head coach of the Malvern Prep Friars, has retired, according to Ted Silary of the Philadelphia Daily News.

Pellegrini finished his 42 years as a head coach just 22 wins shy of the 300 mark, the 12th-highest total in state history.  In his last decade of coaching (1999-’08), the Friars went 80-22, including a 10-0 mark this past season, and a 19-1 overall record in the last two years.

Pellegrini is one of 13 coaches in state history to finish a career with more than 270 victories.  Of those 13, seven are still active.
