  1. i would like to retract the part in my last reply about the “balancing out” of the AAA bracket. sorry about that Josh. but i still stand by the 1st part of it. 🙂

  2. i would have thought that the west had enough AAA teams that there wouldn’t have to be this major shuffling of eastern teams into the west bracket regardless of the Philly Catholic league joining, or is it because of that the east got overloaded with AAA teams and had to balance it out? i remember the huge disparity with the number of AAAA teams in the east compared to the west as an example. don’t mean to change the subject too much, but is the PIAA still talking about adding a 5A classification? if that happens, there won’t be a single team in the west that would qualify because it goes by enrollment, and the east far and away has the biggest schools; North Penn, Reading, Easton, etc. anyway, W.A. in AAA all the way tonight, says the yankee in dixieland! 😉

  3. PIAA what a crock of nonsense with selinsgrove having to drive to johnstown to play greater johnstown why couldn’t they found a better neutral site instead of that nonsense!! Why couldn’t they do a better job of planning playoff sites a little more than a week a head of time. I have know more about Dec 18 weekend then I did finding out about the johnstown game which had me steaming!!

  4. Hey guys,

The reason District 3 AAA teams play in the western half of the bracket happened due to the PIAA having to “balance” out the brackets when the Philadelphia Catholic League joined the PIAA. District 3 was moved west, and Districts 4 & 6 were moved to the eastern half of the bracket. So imagine how the Johnstown Trojan fans would feel about traveling from Cambria County to Shamokin for a playoff game. It doesn’t make sense, but that’s why things are the way they are. Geography has nothing to do with it. And don’t look for North vs. South state title games anytime soon.

  5. Manheim Central’s all the way by the Lancaster/Lebanon area. that is confusing. maybe the PIAA’s experimenting with splitting the playoff brackets into north/south?? i wonder what M.C. themselves think about this arrangement outside of the fact that they’re in the stste semis?

  6. I don’t know how they determine it, its been messed up. A couple years ago Selinsgrove was stuck in the west when they shouldn’t have been. But now are back in the East.

  7. i’ve been living in Tennessee for the past 3 years; born and raised in Erie, PA, but i still like to keep up with what’s going on with PA H.S. football. last time i remember a WPIAL team playing an eastern team is in the FINALS, not the semis. what’s going on with the playoff structure in PA now? last time M.C. played a WPIAL team was Pine-Richland in i think was the 2002-2003(?) AAA finals. how in the world did M.C. move into the western bracket?
