NAZARETH – We know Marquez Wimberly is a dynamic player. Last night he took it to another level. Wimberly totaled five touchdowns, racking up 239 total yards of offense for the Blue Eagles in a 47-21 win over Northampton on Friday night at Andrew S. Leh Stadium.
It didn’t take long for Wimberly to show off his skills. In the first quarter, he broke several tackles and showed his speed in a ten-yard touchdown run. Then a screen pass by Peyton Falzone to Wimberly may have been the best highlight of the night. He broke several tackles, weaved through the defense, and kicked it in another gear for a 55-yard touchdown catch. It was 13-0 Blue Eagles with 4:02 left in the first quarter.
Northampton made it 13-7 when Billy Stuhldreher ran an eight-yard touchdown. That cut into the Blue Eagles’ lead after one quarter.
In the second quarter, Wimberly’s one-yard touchdown run and Northampton’s Zeke Spencer’s four-yard touchdown run with 5:38 left in the half made it 20-14 Blue Eagles. But Wimberly wasn’t slowing down yet.
He took a short pass, made his move, and showed his breakaway speed in a 72-yard touchdown. That was his fourth touchdown of the first half. Nazareth led 26-14 at halftime.
Wimberly added his fifth touchdown of the night in the third quarter. This time it was a run straight up the middle for 22 yards. Owen Hall’s kick was good with 10:33 left in the quarter.
“The offensive line did good tonight opening holes for me,” said Wimberly. “I am thankful for them.”
Marquez had 135 yards receiving and Falzone finished with 291 yards passing.
Nazareth’s next opponent is Easton Area. The Red Rovers knocked off Freedom, 25-21. Northampton will host Bethlehem Catholic.
“Easton is a tough team and we need to play consistently against them next week,” said Wimberly.
