Frank McArdle was named as the head coach of the Truman High School football program.
McArdle brings a strong background and a wealth of experience and knowledge to the position as he assumes leadership of the Tigers’ gridiron program. As a player, he was a linebacker at James Madison University, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in Sports Management, and was part of the program’s 2004 FCS National Championship squad. After graduation, McArdle served as Strength and Conditioning coach for the Dukes before joining the coaching staff at Northeastern University in Boston for four years as an assistant coach.
McArdle then moved into scholastic coaching in the Philadelphia area. He was the head coach at Archbishop Ryan High School for ten years from 2009 to 2019 before moving to take leadership of the Father Judge gridiron program, prior to assuming the head coaching position at Truman.
Archbishop Ryan had gone 0-10 the season before McArdle took over and had not enjoyed a winning campaign in a decade. During his 10-year tenure, McArdle transformed his school into a much-respected program in the highly competitive Philadelphia Catholic League. A highlight was when McArdle guided Ryan to an 8-4 overall record in 2018, and earned Northeast Times Coach of the Year honors for his efforts.
“We are excited to welcome Coach McArdle to Truman and look forward to his bringing his experience and expertise to our football program,” Athletic Director Tim Monaghan stated.
“I am honored to be the head Football Coach at Truman,” said McArdle. “I would like to thank Tim Monaghan, Jon Craig and Superintendent Mike Nitti for the opportunity. This program has tremendous potential and I am excited to get started.”
