EAST STROUDSBURG – Quarterback Robbie Moyer threw four touchdowns and ran for another one. The Cavaliers got two key turnovers as East Stroudsburg South won convincingly over the defending state champs 49-21 Friday night in the Purple Pit.
After a slow start to the game, East Stroudsburg South drove 58 yards on six-plays. The Cavaliers finished off the drive when Moyer hit Dan Cason for a two-yard score.
Anthony Gonzalez of Liberty tied the game up at seven when he found his favorite receiver Jarrod West for the score.
The Cavaliers answered back as Moyer gave his team the lead hitting Greg Kessel for a one-yard touchdown pass. East Stroudsburg South led 14-7.
East Stroudsburg South continued to dominate when Moyer and Cason connected for the second time in the half. Moyer found Cason for a 13-yard touchdown pass with eight seconds to go in the half. The Cavaliers led 21-7.
East Stroudsburg South’s wide receiver Dan Cason said, “We’ve been doing it all season. Our run-pass balance is so good that it’s hard to prepare for us.”
In the second half, the Hurricanes got within seven points, 21-14, when Andrew Klotz went in for a five-yard score. The 16-play 80-yard drive ate up over seven minutes off the clock.
It took the Cavaliers only thirteen seconds to strike back in the third quarter. Moyer hit Keith Hinds for a 63-yard touchdown pass. The Cavs led 28-14.
The Cavs offense scored every time they touch the ball in the second half. Colin Hegarty scored on a 21-yard run. Hegarty picked up a fumble and went 99-yards for a score. Moyer finished the scoring with a 14-yard run.
East Stroudsburg South head coach Ed Christian said, “Our kids are confident in what they do. They didn’t fear anybody and they respected Liberty.”
After a convincing win over Liberty 49-21, East Stroudsburg South’s District 11 winless steak has come to an end after 14 seasons.
Liberty quarterback Anthony Gonzalez rushed for 186 yards and passed for 120 yards two touchdowns and one interception.
Robbie Moyer finished the game completing 12 of 22 for 193 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed for 54 yards on seven carries and a score.
East Stroudsburg South (10-1) hosts Parkland (9-2) next week. The Trojans crushed Wallenpaupack 49-6 Friday night.

It’s a shame. i wanted to see a North penn/ Liberty rematch of last years eastern final. That was a tough lose, but Liberty did earn it ( last year).
