On Thursday Lewisburg’s linebacker Brandon Smith was named to the Class AA All-State Football team.
But before he even took a snap there was fear that he would be lost for the season due to a back injury. But he never missed a snap and played hurt all season.
If you look up the word “tackling machine” you will find Smith’s picture.
The 6-2, 215-pound linebacker led Lewisburg with 135 tackles, 44 solo, 4.5 sacks, three interceptions, four pass deflections and two fumble recoveries. Not bad for a player who wasn’t supposed to play at all.
The three-year starter was named All-State his sophomore year. He had 188 total tackles, 76 solo, six quarterback sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and two interceptions.
He had 19 total tackles against Mount Carmel and 20 total tackles against Mifflinburg this season.
He averaged 11.3 tackles per game and .4 sacks per game. In three years the Green Dragons have won 34 games.
One response to “2011 Small School Defensive Player of the Year: Brandon Smith, Lewisburg”
He didn’t play in a lot of 4th quarters do to big leads or he would’ve of had more. He also didn’t do to bad on offense. He lead the team in pass receptions. Nice article
