Coach Steve Devlin won his first state title in 2011 and was runner up in 2012. In 2013 the Vikings again were king of the hill at the Class AAA level.
“A lot of people were saying we should be in the final this year and that was a lot of pressure on the kids going into the season,” Devlin. “We took it one game at a time and we broke our season schedule down to a bunch of weeks and we took it one week at a time.”
This year in the state final game they defeated Central Valley 33-14.
“We had a great group of kids to coach. They did the little things to make us better. As a coach we wanted to work hard for these kids.”
Archbishop Wood won their third state title in four seasons. In 2013 he was selected ESPN Coach of the Year and the Nike PA Coach of the Year. Coach Devlin was selected as the Philadelphia Catholic League Coach of the Year in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2013.
In eight seasons he has an 98-17 record at Wood.
