Q & A with West Catholic head football coach Brian Fluck
We sat down with Fluck and talked to him about his team for the 2012 season.
How is your off-season going this summer?
Very productive. The kids are working hard. Hopefully a couple kids can step up.
Who do you have coming back on offense?
Our big guy on the line is Jarryd Jones-Smith (6-7, 290). We’re hoping to have Joshua Gibbs (6-3 253) and he will be able to step in and play defense and offense. We have senior Eric Rutherford (6-0, 275) on the line. Our center is going to be a sophomore, Steven Wyant (6-0, 289). Khalim Hadas (6-3, 225) will play tackle. Another guard we are going to rotate in is Kameron Cotton (6-0, 240).
Sophomore Antwain McCollum (5-9, 155) is at quarterback. We’ll have two fullbacks, Sophomore Japon Kegler (5-11, 230) and Senior Sonny Thai (5-11, 205). Our starting running back is Greg White (6-0, 200). Rae’ Quan Williams (5-9, 155) will action at tail back.
We have Ron Womack (6-0, 185) returning at wide receiver. We also have Shaquille James (5-9, 155). Those are the two starting receivers.
My tight end is Dominic Toney (6-3, 245)
Who do you have coming back on defense?
Jarryd Jones-Smith will play our weak defensive end position. Joshua Gibbs and Eric Rutherford.
Our inside linebackers are Bruce Hunter (5-10,170) and Tahir Shoatz (5-9, 170). Devyn Allen will get some playing time.
Our two corners are Shaquille James and Rae’Quan Williams. Greg White will play strong safety. The other spots are up for battle.
We will be a young team this year.
What about special teams?
Shaquille James will be doing punt return and kick off return. Also Freshman Craig Jones. Patrick Amara will do the kicking and punting.
To have a successful season you have to?
We have to come together as a young group. Make sure we develop the offensive line. Defensively we need the front seven to lead the way. I believe our d-backs can cover people.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but weren’t the Burrs 10-4 last season?
