The first week of the post season did not disappoint local high school football fans as there were several outstanding games to attend. The weather cooperated with cool and dry conditions and that should be the case again this weekend.
It is now time to dive right in with predictions on five of the most competitive contests this week.
Playoff week one predictions went perfectly well with all five teams winning as predicted. Pennsbury, North Penn, Garnet Valley, Glen Mills and Academy Park all advance to the second round this weekend.
The last seven years the prognostication record stands at 351-145 while going 34-16 for this season.
Let’s take a peek at the contest between the 9th seeded Abington Ghosts and the top seeded Garnet Valley Jaguars. The Jags enter the game undefeated after a 35-21 first playoff round win over Council Rock North. Garnet Valley relied on running back Vince Razzano and QB Christian Portale to dominate the ground game with 370 yards. Abington opened the post season with an 85 yard kickoff return by Jordan Neely and never looked back on their way to a 55-25 win over Upper Dublin. The Ghosts will need a big game from running back Craig Reynolds to overcome the home team. The key to this game may be how well Ravzzano plays after a late game injury last Friday night. Upset alert on this one.
Abington 35 Garnet Valley 27
The next playoff showdown to watch involves the 11th seed North Penn Knights traveling to the 3rd seed Pennsbury. The Knights dominated 6th seed Coatesville 31-0 with a dual attack by air and ground. QB Austin Shearer went 8 for 12 passing with one TD strike while Nyfease West ran for 146 yards on 20 carries to overwhelm the Red Raider defense. The Pennsbury Falcons did not play around in the first round either with a 55-20 win over Upper Darby. Pennsbury rushed for 549 yards and scored 3 TD’s by air. The Falcons seemed to score at will with Kevin White, DeAndre Pendergrass and Justin Venditti all seeing the end zone. This contest will be a war with the home team hanging on to win. This game can be seen on live streaming video Friday at 7 PM. http://new.livestream.com/accounts/1274087

Hi Per Valley ’75
I would give a slight edge to Periomen Valley but it will be close 35 t0 31.
Bristol should handle Delco Christion my guess 42 to 28.
Should be a fun weekend.
There are only two other playoff games in District 1. What are your “unofficial” predictions for Perkiomen Valley vs. CB West and Delco Christian vs. Bristol? Right or wrong, I won’t make you count them in your record!
