BETHLEHEM – Freedom was led by the running duo of Matty Russin and Deante Crawford. Russin rushed for 136 yards and Crawford added 113 yards. They combined for five touchdowns leading the Patriots over Northampton 44-20 Friday night at BASD Stadium.
Freedom didn’t waste any time scoring after the opening kickoff. Four plays later, Russin took the handoff and went 35-yards for the score. The Patriots led 7-0. Russin had two carries on the drive for 49 yards.
After a missed field goal by Northampton and a Patriot touchdown called back on the holding penalty, Russin broke free and went 53 yards and the score.
Northampton’s next possession they turned the ball over on downs at their 43. Russin capped off the seven-play drive with his third touchdown run of the quarter. With 36 seconds left in the quarter, Freedom led 21-0. Freedom got a safety when Braelin Moore tackled Joe Kerbacher in the end zone to make it 23-0 Patriots.
Freedom’s quarterback Brian Taylor went in from 48 yards out for his first varsity touchdown. With 55 seconds left in the half, the Patriots led 30-0.
Northampton finally got on the board. A scrambling Kerbacher found a wide-open Michael Cruz for a 61-yard touchdown pass. With 10:17 left in the third quarter, Freedom was ahead 30-6.
Kerbacher added another score for the Konkrete Kids. This time it was a nine-yard run with 2:41 left in the third quarter. Freedom maintained a healthy lead, 30-13.
Crawford extended Freedoms’ lead to 37-13. He went 18 yards for the score with 10:18 left in the game. Crawford added another rushing touchdown with 4:06 left in the game. The final score was Freedom 44, Northampton 13.
