The Vikings announced the hiring of their new head football coach, Ryan Nase. To get to know Ryan, we sat down and talked to the Vikings new head coach.
What is your previous coaching background?
I most recently served as the QB coach and Special Teams Coordinator at Bensalem High School during the 2021 season. Previous to that, I served as Head Coach at Cheltenham High School from 2017-2021. During that time, I had a career record of 27-16, which included an undefeated 2019 SOL American Conference and District 1 5A championship as well as an appearance in the 2019 state final game.
Following that season, I was named PSFCA, PA Sportswriters, PAFootballnews, and EasternPAFootball 5A Coach of the Year. I began my coaching career as an OL/DL coach at Admiral Farragut Academy in St. Petersburg, Florida before moving on to the college ranks, serving as Director of Football Operations and TE coach at Lafayette College. Upon returning to the High School environment, I served as an assistant under my high school coach Tom Coyle at Father Judge from 2011-2013 and then at Penn Charter from 2013-2016.
Do you teach and if so, what subject do you teach?
I currently serve as a Social Studies teacher at Cheltenham High School.
What is your goal for this team?
Northeast has been extremely successful recently and our goal is to continue that success on the field. We need to make sure we are not just coaching the X’s and O’s but helping mentor our players to be accountable academically and become great men in order to avoid some of the struggles seen by our youth in Philadelphia today.
What are your thoughts about the league you will be playing in?
The Philadelphia Public League and District 12 are absolutely loaded with talent. We’ll be playing against Division 1 talent on an almost weekly basis. We hope that we are prepared and disciplined enough to provide multiple looks both offensively and defensively that will make us a challenge to prepare for in order to compete against such a strong schedule.
“We are excited about a number of our young players who saw time in 2022 and will be led by four-star athlete Kahmir Prescott, who currently holds over ten Power Five offers and that number continues to grow,” said Nase.
