After seeing their hopes for a Philadelphia Catholic League AAA Championship end with a heartbreaking loss to their rivals Monsignor Bonner, the Cardinal O’Hara Lions were able to rest for a week while the Haverford School Fords had a game to play against their rivals Episcopal Academy. On Thursday in a make-up game from earlier in the year, the Lions and the Fords met and the Lions looked refreshed as they crashed the Fords 27-17.
The Lions struck first with a 29 yard touchdown pass from DaShawn Darden to Thaddus Smith. The Fords came back with a six yard option run by James Chakey. But the Lions responded with a 12 yard touchdown pass from
Darden to Jay Watkins. Darden finished the game with 298 yards passing.
The lone points in the second quarter came from the leg of Aron Morgon who booted a 44 yard field goal
to pull the Fords within four at half. The third quarter saw the Watkins show continue as he scored twice in the quarter to make it 27-10 at the end of three.
Chakey scored again in the fourth quarter from three yards out to make things interesting but the Lions held on.
