Conrad Weiser is coming off of a 10-win season and berth in the District 3 “AAA” semi-finals in 2009. Two of the Scouts’ 2010 returning players from that 10-win team in 2009 are potential Division-1 prospects.
Running back DJ Robinson and tight end Matt Weiser are both generating some buzz in the world of college recruiting, and Weiser even has a couple of offers, according to Conrad Weiser head football coach Alan Moyer.
Weiser has two offers, from Buffalo and Toledo, according to Moyer, and has received interest from Syracuse, UCONN, and Ivy League representative Princeton. Rivals.com also lists Bowling Green and Virginia as showing interest in the 6’5, 220-pound senior-to-be. Duke is also evaluating Weiser.
As a sophomore, Weiser’s production was limited. The Scouts, as a team, threw for more than1,600 yards in 2008, but Weiser only caught 12 passes for 130 yards. His production increased last season – to 23 receptions for 421 yards and four touchdowns, which tied for the team lead with Mike Oliveto. Weiser averaged 18.3 yards per reception and 32.4 yards per game.
Weiser’s notable 2009 performances included games against Whitehall (5 rec., 63 yds., TD); Reading Holy Name (4 rec., 61 yards, 2 TD); and Hershey (2 rec., 70 yds., 35.0 yds./rec.).
Robinson, meanwhile, is a very versatile athlete, and he can do damage in a variety of ways, whether that’s as a running back, receiver out of the backfield, or returning kicks. Robinson, a 5’7, 175-pound athlete, gave the Scouts a sampling of what he could do as a sophomore, running for 660 yards, adding 394 receiving yards, scoring 11 total touchdowns, and returning 13 combined kickoffs and punts for 169 yards.
As a junior, Robinson exploded. He ran for a team-best 1,339 yards (8.1 yds./rush; 103 rush yds./game); caught 14 passes for 351 yards (25.07 yds./rec.); scored 18 total touchdowns (15 rushing, 2 receiving, 1 misc.); and returned 16 combined kickoffs and punts for 385 yards.
According to Moyer, Robinson has generated interest from schools like UCONN, Temple, Akron, and Fordham.
Robinson had numerous performances worth noting for the Scouts last season. He opened with 137 receiving yards against Whitehall (avg. 68.5 yards per catch); totaled 363 combined rushing & receiving yards and scored five total touchdowns against Daniel Boone; and surpassed 120 yards rushing in five consecutive games from October to November (Blue Mountain, Exeter Twp., Twin Valley, Lampeter-Strasburg and Hershey).
Conrad Weiser, which competes in the Berks Inter-County League (Division 1), averaged 28.3 points and 358.6 yards of total offense per game last season.
