There was a very surprising stat this week as Penn State prepared for its first ever meeting with Delaware. The Nittany Lions had only a 116-79-12 all-time record against teams that are currently in the FCS. All history aside, it was no match at Beaver Stadium Saturday afternoon. Penn State scored 35 first half points in route to an easy 63-7 victory.
Coach James Franklin felt Penn State’s offensive performance was “very efficient”. Coach also felt that the teams “consistent special teams” play and the ability to play ” a ton of guys” were positives the team can take from the victory.
Penn State racked up 541 total yards and just over 42 minutes time of possession. Blue Hens could only muster 140 yards. Kaytron Allen was the work horse on offense for the Nittany Lions with 103 yards rushing and a TD. Nick Singleton added 3 TD’s rushing. QB Drew Allar was efficient with a 22-26 204 and 1 TD performance. Drew also ran in a TD. Abdul Carter once again paced a balanced defensive effort.
The running attack was clicking early for Penn State. Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen each had a TD in quarter one. As the first quarter wound down Marcus Yarns gave Delaware some life with a 65 yard TD run.
Singleton kept it going in quarter two with two more TDs Drew Allar has a TD pass and Penn State never looked back.
