Penn Wood might be more known for its basketball teams than its football program, but the Patriots are coming off of an 8-4 season, one of the better football seasons in recent memory for the Lansdowne-based school.
And one of Penn Wood’s returning defensive linemen has generated a lot of Division-1 interest.
Shawn Oakman, a 6’8, 240-pound senior-to-be, has received six Division-1 offers to date, according to his profile on Rivals.com. He might be one of the best returning defensive line prospects in all of District 1.
To date, Oakman has received offers from UCONN, North Carolina State, Penn State, Pitt, Rice, and South Carolina. Schools like Michigan, Purdue, Rutgers, Virginia and West Virginia have shown interest, but not extended scholarship offers to Oakman.
The Penn Wood defensive end posted 116 tackles and 17 sacks last season, an average of nearly 9.7 tackles and just over 1.4 sacks per game. Oakman was part of a Patriot defense that allowed 140 points on the season, holding six of 12 opponents to eight points or less, with two shutouts.
