Philadelphia Catholic League Players of the Week Week 10 – Nov. 6, 2019

Offensive Player of the Week

Lonnie Rice – Bishop McDevitt – QB – Senior

The Lancers’ dynamic signal-caller accounted for four touchdowns in his team’s, 42-14, win over Mahanoy Area in a 2A D-11/12 Subregional Semifinal. On the ground he carried 12 times for 81 yards. Three times he found the end zone on runs of 1, 2, and 20 yards. Through the air he was an efficient 8-for-10, with 99 yards and one score covering 5 yards.

Defensive Player of the Week

Dillon Trainer – LaSalle – LB – Senior

The Explorers rugged linebacker was everywhere Saturday afternoon in his team’s, 45-7, pasting of Roman in a PCL 6A Semifinal. Early on he scooped-up a fumble and easily found paydirt (8 yards) for the game’s first score. The Explorers never looked back. All total, Trainer accumulated 15 tackles (11 solo), including a sack and another TFL.

Special Teams Players of the Week

Carl Smith – West Catholic – KR – Senior

The versatile Smith was extremely busy Saturday night at the South Philly Super Site Complex as he turned his nine touches into 297 all-purpose yards. Included in this was a 98-yard kickoff return that helped the Burrs in their, 44-29, victory over Schuylkill Haven in a 2A D-11/12 Subregional Semifinal. Smith lost a 85-yard punt return touchdown on a penalty call. He added another punt return for 28 yards and a kickoff return for 48 yards. Additionally, he made 4 receptions for 70 yards (59-yard TD) and returned a fumble 49 yards on the defensive side of the ball.
