Offensive Player of the Week:
Shawn Battle – Neumann-Goretti – RB – Senior
The Saint’s most talented player was on full display in their team’s hard-fought 22-14 win over Scranton Prep. The win allowed the Saints to advance to the PIAA 3A quarterfinals. Battle scored twice and rushed for a career-high 214 yards on 31 carries. Showing a nice mix of patience and toughness Battle was able to carry the Saints’ offense on a frigid night in northern Pennsylvania.
Defensive Player of the Week:
Kyan Johnson – Neumann-Goretti – DB – Senior
Johnson snatched two of the Saints’ four interceptions in the game. His second pick came very late and ended any hopes of Scranton Prep tying the game. These interceptions were Johnson’s first two of the season.
Special Teams Player of the Week:
Thomas Cerutti – St. Joseph’s Prep – LB – Junior
In the Hawks’ resounding victory (49-to-6) over Northeast in the District-12 6A title game, Cerutti was in on five tackles on kickoffs. Two of these stops were solos. Cerutti’s play helped the Hawks see that the Vikings would need to drive the field while on offense.
