Offensive Player of the Week
Aiden Clancy – Ryan – Jr. – RB
Clancy rushed 16 times for 178 yards and two scores in the Raiders exciting win over rival Father Judge in front of a large and spirited crowd at Northeast H.S. Clancy’s 55-yard scoring run early in the 4th quarter provided the difference in the game. He earlier unleashed a 48-yard touchdown. Amazingly, Clancy’s 178 yards on the ground wasn’t much lower than what Ryan produced rushing as a team over the last two seasons (16 games – 284 yards). The victory snapped a 15-game losing streak for Ryan.
Defensive Player of the Week
Joe Mastrangelo – Ryan – Sr. – DB
Not the biggest of kids, but Mastrangelo doesn’t have an issue standing out when he plays and typically does so in all three phases of the game. Exhibiting a nice combination of savvy and brass, the quick Mastrangelo provided a huge moment in Ryan’s 21-14 victory over rival Father Judge when he neatly stepped in front of a pass and streaked 79-yard to paydirt. He also chipped in with 8 tackles (5 solos) from the secondary. On special teams, he managed 63 yards in returns, despite losing most of a long punt return touchdown on a penalty. Offensively, he made 4 catches for 94 yards.
Special Teams Player of the Week
John Pergine – Wood – Sr. LB
There was just no way I could leave this kid off the honor roll this week. Talk about a man possessed. Throughout Wood’s, 46-0 shellacking of Cheltenham there appeared to be multiple Pergine’s on the field at once. I had to keep looking to see if there was more than one #44 out there. Nah, just one. With most of his damage coming in the opening half, Pergine wreaked havoc on the Panthers’ offense and then some. He finished with a game-high 11 tackles (9 solos), two interceptions, a sack, and 4 other TFLs (19 yards in losses). But this is Special Teams Player of the Week, Mr. Huck? Ohh, he also blocked a pair of punts and twice provided moments that led to safeties. Phew!
