2016 Season: O 41.8 D 4.0

2016 Playoffs: O 28.4 (GP-5) D 6.4 (GP-5)

Here’s a breakdown of Imhotep’s projected starters (in bold) in the Class 4A PIAA State Championship game.

Quarterback

Sr. Nasir Boykin 6-1 184

Boykin has thrown for 1,034 yards on 59 of 93 passes, 20 touchdowns and three interceptions. He also rushed for 269 yards and two scores. He is a guy that can extend plays. He is very smooth in the pocket and makes all the throws. He can also beat you with his legs.

Coach’s comments, “He goes out and plays hard and is always under control. He is a leader and the players rally around him.”

Runningbacks

Sr. Amir Lewis 5-11 188; Jr. Chris Wells 5-10 190; Jr. Kristian Marche 5-11 160

Lewis leads the team with 501 yards rushing and five touchdowns. Wells rushed for 265 yards and Marche added 402. Wells is more of a inside runner and Amir is both an inside and outside runner. Marche has good speed. Another guy to keep a eye on is Isheem Young who has run for 236 yards and five scores.

Coach’s comments, “All these guys are fast and can create problems. They can run and catch the ball and we hope to keep the other team off balance this weekend.”

Wide Receivers

Sr. Amir Brown 5-10, 185; Sr. Jeff Davis 5-9 160; Jr. Justin Harris 5-9 170

These three guys may not be real tall, but they have speed and are a deep threat. Harris has caught 19 passes for 419 yards and nine touchdowns. Brown caught 17 passes for 258 and four scores. Davis has 121 yards on seven catches. Imhotep needs to get these guys in open space and let them make plays.

Coach’s comments, “This group of receivers catch the ball well. They have good speed and run good routes with big play ability.”

Offensive Line

Sr. RT Qadir Ahmed 6-3, 270; Sr. RG Zahir Schenck 6-3, 270; Sr. C Brashon Mcrae; Jr. LG Arick Lochetto 5-11, 250; Jr. RG Justin Johnson 6-7, 335

Coach’s comments, “Our leader is Mcrae. We are athletic and our strength is we haven’t played our best game yet. We need to be more consistent on the offensive line.

Defensive line

So. DE Omar Speights 6-2, 228; Sr. NG Jalen Denby 6-0, 345; Jr. Ron Lloyd 6-2, 215

Speights leads the team in sacks with eight.

Coach’s comments, “We have size on the line and they are athletic. They are good at stopping the run and getting at the quarterback.”

Linebackers

Sr. Amin Black 5-11, 230; Sr. Naiheem Santos 5-9, 210; Sr. CJ Walton III 5-7, 180; Sr. Alonzo Taylor 6-0, 180

Black leads the team in tackles and Santos is a physical hitter.

Coach’s comments, “They are very good tacklers and get at the ball. Walton and Taylor will rotate in.”

Secondary

So. SS Tykee Smith 5-11, 185; Jr. FS Isheem Young 5-11, 195; Sr. CB Mike Crawford 6-0, 185; Jr. Romello Edwards 5-11 177

Young and Smith each have three interceptions.

Coach’s comments, “Our strength is in the middle of our defense. Leading our secondary is Young.”

Final thoughts: The key to the game is the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Which team will dominate the line could win the game on Thursday. So with that said, it’s not too often Imhotep plays a team with bigger size on the line and Cathedral Prep has that size to create problems on the line.

They are very athletic and have good linebackers. Their front is very athletic and they have a good secondary. Joe Mischler is running the offense really well and they need to contain him and the defensive line of Imhotep has to make plays in the back field or he will pick them apart. I think this game will be a lot closer than last year.
