Tanner Klinefelter, the Lions’ 6’2, 185-pound field general, has received interest, but no verbal scholarship offers, from seven Division-1 programs, according to national recruiting service Scout.com. Klinefelter has received interest from Boston College, Maryland, Penn State, Rutgers, Syracuse, Temple and West Virginia.
Klinefelter had a solid junior season for Red Lion. He connected on 146-of-236 passes (61.9 percent) for 1,983 yards and 22 touchdowns against only five interceptions. He threw for 100+ yards in 11 of the Lions’ 14 games, including a pair of 200-yard passing efforts. Klinefelter finished seven games with multiple touchdown passes and had a TD-to-INT ratio of 4.4-to-1. The Lions averaged more than 140 yards passing per game last season.
For his career, Klinefelter has thrown for 2,566 yards and 29 touchdowns. He has the potential to become the Lions’ first ever 4,000-yard passer, as he is just 1,434 yards shy of the milestone.
Red Lion finished 10-4 overall in 2010, reaching the school’s first ever District 3 AAAA championship game opposite Cumberland Valley. The Eagles eliminated the Lions, 35-7. Red Lion is 0-3 against Cumberland Valley the last two seasons.
