FOLSOM: It’s perhaps the most wanted job in all of Delaware County it’s so hard to get that in fact it usually it goes to a senior and that’s the job of starting quarterback for the Ridley Green Raiders. With the position at what is arguably the most Delaware County most prestigious program comes pressure to perform in big games. Well this year signal caller sure has answer the call prior to Friday evening Central League Battle with the Garnet Valley Jaguars Colin Masterson led his Green Raiders to a perfect 8-0 record although his Green Raiders fell to the Jaguars thus letting a chance to have be the sole champion of the Central League it wasn’t for lack of effort on Masterson part.
The Jaguars would strike first on their second possession when Alex Warden capped a four play 82 yard drive with his one yard plunge. Warden would set the drive up with a 73 gallop on the drives first play. Dan Acchione would add the extra point making it 7-0 Jaguars. Those points were the first that tough Green Raiders defense gave up in the first quarter all season.
The Green Raiders would respond with the legs of Masterson who capped a five play 18 yard drive with his 4 yard scamper on a bootleg. Tom Bongiorno would add the extra point tying the game up at 7.
The Jaguars would add to their lead after a Bongiorno attempt at a 28 yard field goal was blocked. On the ensuing drive the Jaguars would drive to the Green Raiders 13 yard line where Acchione’s 30 yard field goal would give them the 10-7 lead heading into the half.
Acchione would add a 31 yard field goal in the third quarter to make the Jaguars lead 13-7.
On the ensuing drive the Green Raiders would respond going 59 yards on 7 plays behind the arm of Masterson who connect with Norm Donkin for 31 yard gain that put the Green Raiders down to Jaguars 11 three plays later Masterson would connect with Dion Shaw for the 7 yard touchdown. Bongiorno would add the extra point giving the Green Raiders the 14-13 lead.
The Jaguars would respond thanks to Mark McHugh to Warden connection that covered 34 yards and gave the Jags the 20-14 lead.
Masterson had one last chance to win the game as he led the Green Raiders down to Jaguars 11 yard line when time expired. Masterson would finish the game with 172 yards passing to go along with 27 yards rushing. After the game Masterson said “We learned a lot about the team tonight” Green Raiders Head Coach Dennis Decker said that his team “battled and that this lost leaves a bad taste in their mouth.”
