NORTHAMPTON – On a beautiful Thanksgiving Day at Al Erdosy Field, Catasauqua (8-4) ended its eight-game losing streak to Northampton, 20-6, in the 89th Annual Classic. Catasauqua’s last win came back in 2002, when they defeated their rivals, 21-6.
Roughies’ running back Ra’Von Burton earned his team’s MVP by rushing for 132 yards on nine carries. For the Konkrete Kids, Marcus Newsom was their MVP.
Catasauqua opened up the scoring in the second quarter on a Zachary Pattison 25 yard field goal with 7:18 left. After a Northampton punt, the Roughies then padded their lead on their next possession – a 50 yard touchdown pass from Jake Bloszinsky to Paryss Marshall for a Catasauqua 10-0 lead at halftime.
To begin the third quarter, Northampton (3-9) recovered its own kickoff at the Catasauqua 29 yard line. Five plays later, K-KID running back Marcus Newsom scored on a one-yard touchdown run. The run failed, closing the Roughie lead to 10-6.
But Catasauqua answered back with 1:11 left in the third with another Pattison field goal, this time from 24 yards out, to make the score 13-6.
Early in the fourth quarter, Roughies’ running back Ra’Von Burton (10 rushes, 132 yards) put the game away for his team on a 79 yard touchdown scamper.
Jake Bloszinksky completed three of eight passes, for 114 yards.
Northampton quarterback Pat Cook completed four passes for 22 yards, with an interception. He did not complete a pass in the second half. Brandon Heimbach was the team’s leading rusher, gaining 90 yards, on 13 carries.
Both teams combined for over 100 yards in penalties, and also combined for five turnovers.
Northampton leads the series 54-31-4.
