When Bayard Rustin came into excestence, the West Chester School Board said the three schools must play each other in all sports.
Rustin wins the “West Chester” battle for 2013 with a convincing 47-7 win over west Chester East in a Ches-Mont cross over divisional game Friday nite.
“Our number one goal is to win West Chester,” said Rustin runningback Terry Loper who rushed for 301 yards on 25 carries and scored three touchdowns. Loper’s touchdown runs were 11, 47 and 80 yards.
“Terry was banged up the first two weeks,” said Rustin Head Coach Mike St. Clair. “He showed tonite what he can do.
Another player who showed what he can do for the normally Ground and Pound Golden Knights (3-0) was Quarterback Dave Fithian. Fithian completed five of eight passes for 132 yards and two touchdowns. The first was a 45 yard pass to Ethan Ridgeway and the seconds was a 21 yard strike to Omar Stewart.
“With Fithian we can be a little more diversified on offense,” said St. Clair. “He has a big time arm and he makes good decisions.”
East (2-1) got on the board first on a 25 yard field goal by Nick Phillips with 2:28 left in the first quarter for a 3-0 lead. JonJon Roberts was 13 for 25 for 122 yards and two touchdonwns. The first was a 12 yard pass to David Bond and the second was a 25 yard pass to Dan Genthert. Genthert also had 71 yards rushing on 16 carries for the Vikings.
Rustin (3-0) also got scroes on a TJ Kirk 4 yard run and a Luke Ricci 8 yard run.
With the win, the Golden Knights now travel to Downingtown next wek to take on Downingtown East while West Chester east is at home to play Bisop Shanhan on homecoming.
“We played well in the first half,” said East coach Dan Ellis. “We missed on a couple of plays and that hurt us.”
