SCFCA All-Star Game Coaches and Honorary Captains

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN – Sam Bonner of Tamaqua is head coach for the North and Cory Mabry of Blue Mountain is head coach for the South in this year’s Schuylkill County Football Coaches Association All-Star Game, sponsored by The Jungle and Mystic Screen Printing and Embroidery, Wednesday, Nov. 27, with a 7 p.m. kickoff at Rotary Field, Schuylkill Haven.

Rick Jones, a 1974 Tamaqua graduate, is the honorary captain for the North. Josh Dolbin, a 1993 Pottsville graduate, is honorary captain for the South.

At halftime of the game, the 2013 SCFCA Hall of Fame Class will be inducted. This year’s class is Richard “Dick” Ketz, Blue Mountain; the late Walter “Walt” Ligenza, Tamaqua; and the late Joseph “Joe” Willinsky, Minersville, from active schools; and the late Geno Poli, Coaldale, is the at-large inductee.

Bonner completed his seventh season at Tamaqua with a 7-3 record, however, the Blue Raiders failed to qualify for the District 11 Class AA or Eastern Conference playoffs. His career record of 45-31 is highlighted by last year’s Anthracite Football League championship and 10-0 record for the regular season.

Mabry completed his first season at Blue Mountain with a 4-6 record, with the highlight for the Eagles being a victory over this year’s Anthracite Football League champion Jim Thorpe. His overall record for nine years is 29-55.

Jones was a running back and linebacker for Tamaqua and also played basketball and baseball for the Blue Raiders. In college, he played wide receiver and returned punts and kickoffs for the Warriors of East Stroudsburg.

Currently an elementary teacher in the Blue Mountain school district, Jones coached for two years at Waynesboro before returning to East Stroudsburg and serve as a graduate assistant for two years. This past year he was an assistant at Minersville, where he previously was head coach for 12 years; was head coach at Pine Grove for three years; and was an assistant coach at Blue Mountain for 12 years over three stints.

Jones and his wife Lisa are the parents of a daughter, Alexa, an Albright graduate who teaches at Tamaqua; and a son, Rick, who is a freshman at York College.

Dolbin was a running back and defensive back at Pottsville and also ran track for the Crimson Tide. In college, he played wide receiver for the Wildcats of Villanova and went on to have a free agent tryout with the Philadelphia Eagles and play in the Arena League for the Albany Firebirds.

For the last 15 years Dolbin has served as the northeast sales manager for Commscope, a wireless telecommunication company based in Hickory, N.C.

Dolbin and his wife Jennifer are the parents of sons J.T., Josh, Noah and Marshall and daughter Rebecca.
