ORWIGSBURG — Wednesday’s Schuylkill County Football Coaches Association preseason media conference held at Roman Delight, Route 61, Orwigsburg, honored 1975 Panther Valley graduate Tom Frendak, a four-year lineman in football and a pitcher/infielder in two years of baseball.
Before retiring from the U.S. Army in 2010 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, Frendak had a distinguish career serving his nation following graduation from Kutztown University in 1979. After graduating from the United States Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth , Kansas , in 1989, he earned a Masters of Science degree in Geo-environmental Studies from Shippensburg University .
Frendak is a registered professional geologist in Tennessee and Pennsylvania , has been awarded the Federal Executive Board Baltimore Supervisor of the Year Bronze Award, is a Society of American Military Engineers National Fellow and a member of the Society of American Military Engineers Chesapeake Post Board of Directors. Currently, he is project manager of the Regional Environmental and Energy Office at the Northern Proving Ground, Aberdeen, Maryland, under the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army.
Three years ago, Frendak and three friends organized a group known as “Four-Mile Outfitters” and became involved in the Wounded Warriors Project to provide outdoors-related opportunities for wounded veterans and active military personnel. Thus far the group has organized and conducted pheasant hunts and fishing trips for military personnel and has teamed with the Schuylkill County Sportsmen’s Association to provide future outings.
