The 2009 regular season provided local fans and teams with great matchups, exciting games and even a few surprises. It is hard to believe that playoffs are already upon us and in a few short weeks new state champions will be crowned.

The District One seeds have all been established and it is time for each of these squads to hit the field running this weekend. November can be a tricky month weather wise and it is possible that rain and wind could be a factor on Friday night.

Last week the predictions went well with a 4-1 call. The Strath Haven one point win over Springfield spoiled what could have been a perfect week while Interboro, Pennsbury, Avon Grove and Council Rock South all followed the script and won as predicted.

The last three years this future teller has a 141-49 prognostication record and with a 2009 first ten week record at 39-11 it is hoped we can pick up the pace with playoff action.

Once the playoffs begin predicting the outcome is always tough and this year will be no exception.

One newcomer to the AAAA playoffs this year is Avon Grove, a team that climbed to the top of the Chest-Mont league to share a title with Downingtown East and West in 2009. The Red Devils will entertain the Quakertown Community Panthers led by head coach John Donnelly. The Panthers come into this contest with two losses with one of those setbacks to number one seed North Penn. Avon Grove features a powerful running attack led by Brandon McLaughlin and Brandon Munk. The Red Devils will pound the ball all night and with a wet field possible the Panthers will be hard pressed to keep it close.

Prediction:    Avon Grove  31  Quakertown Community  16

The next big showdown to watch features Suburban One, National Conference’s Council Rock South traveling to Central League Co-Champion Ridley. The Green Raiders are ranked seventh in Ed Thomas’ SE Pa Top Ten http://www.havenfootball.net/ and have once again found a way into the playoffs with a gritty defense and a well coached offense. Ridley can beat most foes by ground or by air guided by QB Colin Masterson they will be tough to keep off the scoreboard. The Golden Hawks have only lost to Pennsbury and Neshaminy and will not go down easy in the playoffs. Home field will be sweet to Ridley as they escape to the second round.

Prediction:    Ridley  27  Council Rock South  23

The rest of the fearless forecast:

Prediction:      Neshaminy  31  Abington  27

Prediction:      Garnet Valley  35  Penncrest  31
