The Grenadiers have posted an overall record of 58-14 (.806) since the start of the 2006 season, including consecutive 11-win seasons which both ended in District 2 AA championship victories and berths in the PIAA playoffs.
Standout dual-threat athlete Darrell Crawford is graduated, but GAR finds itself with several pieces back offensively. Linemen Shakir Soto (a Pitt recruit), Christian Skrepenak (receiving some D-1 looks), Elijah Gresham and rising sophomore Zack Faust are all back, as is Corey Moore, who threw for more than 300 yards in his lone 2011 start and multi-purpose athlete Lucas Benton (659 rush yards, 344 receiving yards, 11 total TDs).
Defensively, Soto, Skrepenak and Gresham are joined by Korey Welkey and Rich Sickler. Both Welkey and Sickler posted more than 90 tackles in 2011. While Wyoming Area poses a threat to the Grenadiers’ chances of a D2 AA district championship three-peat (also accomplished by Lakeland, 2002-’04 and Dunmore, 2007-’09), the road to said district championship undoubtedly goes through GAR until otherwise proven.
