NAZARETH – The Gold and Red All-stars put on a show Thursday night at Nazareth’s Andrew Leh Stadium as both teams combined for 127 points. In an offensive showcase, the Gold team won 65-62.

The Gold Team jumped out to a commanding lead scoring the first 42 points and led 49-14 at halftime. A modified mercy rule was in effect in the second half. Instead of just running clock, the Red team got the ball right back. The only way the Gold team’s offense would touch the ball was if the defense turned the ball over.

They scored 48 points including six straight touchdowns as they took the lead on a Southern Lehigh, Blake Levengood 78-yard run with 2:41 left in the game and led 62-57.

But the Gold team fought back. Bethlehem Liberty’s Doug Erney threw his fifth touchdown pass of the night to Easton’s Nysir Minney-Gratz with 1:07 left in the game and led by three.

The biggest play of the night came on the defensive side. Yes, they did play some defense last night. Bethlehem Freedom’s Cordel Cotto stripped the ball out of Southern Lehigh’s Blake Levengood’s hand with 25.1 seconds left in the game to secure a win for the Gold team.
