The Eagles might have the best team in the landscape of District 3 AAAA football teams this year. The defending D3 champions have won 12 games each of the last two seasons, and head coach Tim Rimpfel (276-91-3 overall, 11 District 3 football title victories, 1 PIAA title) has quite a number of pieces back. Most notably, the Eagles are paced by ATH Kevin Synder, a Rutgers commit, who ran for 1,341 yards, added 634 receiving yards and scored 28 total touchdowns as a junior. More-than-reliable field general Eric Sawyer (1,892 pass yards, 17 TD, 6 INT) returns to direct the offense. Defensively, Snyder (109 tackles, 3 INT, 4 forced fumbles) and Colton Kirkpatrick (team-leading 153 tackles, 3 deflected passes), DB Kyle Brubaker (70 tackles, 3 INT), LB Dan Flynn (67 tackles, 1 sack), DL Barry Lyons (53 tackles, 3 sacks) and DT Kyle Friend (50 tackles, 2 sacks) return to man positions on the Eagles’ defensive unit. Junior kicker Lance Geesey (59 PATs, 1 field goal; 73 KO, 10 touchbacks) will provide a spark on special teams. Could CV win 12 games for a third straight year? It’s entirely possible.

As good as a pre-season ranking as any.
