The 2014 high school football season has just three weeks remaining before District One playoffs get underway . The top teams are not only concerned with playoff points but league championships are on the line as well. Pennsbury, Coatesville, Quakertown, West Chester Henderson and West Chester Rustin fill out the favored five at AAAA playoff hunt. However Central Bucks South, Council Rock North and Upper Dublin are just a few points off the pace.
The AAA level has the undefeated Springfield Cougars with , Great Valley, Pottsgrove, Academy Park and Bishop Shanahan in good position at this point in the season.
The last eight years the prognostication record stands at 385-166 while going 21-9 for this season. West Chester Henderson, Council Rock North, Quakertown and Pennsbury all won as predicted with St Joseph Prep’s 35-31 win over LaSalle as the only failed pick. Only top competitive games have been chosen for this fearless forecast.
It is now time for the predictions for this week’s contests. The Central League Championship will be decided this Friday night. The undefeated Springfield Cougars will host the Garnet Valley Jaguars and the winner will not only hold the title but will be a sure bet for post season action. The Cougars survived a big scare when they held off a fired up Upper Darby squad last Friday night in damp conditions 35-34. QB Brian Allen was up to the task 119 yards running and 110 yards passing. However this contest was not decided until defensive back Lucas Spence intercepted a Royal pass with just 28 seconds remaining in the game. Garnet Valley kept pace with a 28-7 win over the Penncrest Lions. The Jags had to overcome some penalties and fumbles with Tom Cleary grabbing a 5 yard TD heave from Steve Flanagan to seal the win. This is one tough call but the guess here is that the year of the Cougar lives on this week. This contest can be seen on live streaming video Friday at 7 PM. http://www.ssdcougars.org/Resources.cfm?subpage=47365w.

The next game to consider is another contest that will determine AAAA seeding position for both teams. The West Chester Henderson Warriors are hot on the tail of the Coatesville Red Raiders in this post season race. The Red Raiders are one of only three undefeated AAAA teams in District One. This game is another one that could go down to the wire but will go with the home field advantage.
