Allentown Central Catholic gets their first win of the season with a 38-27 victory over Pleasant Valley in EPC North division game.
Pleasant Valley forced a punt on the first drive of the game after a three and out by the Vikings. The Bears found the end zone first on a Mike Mitchell five-yard touchdown run at the 7:42 mark of the first quarter. David Cummings added the extra point to give the Bears an early 7-0 lead. Darnell Ferrell got the Vikings on the board with a seven-yard touchdown run at 5:09 left in the first quarter. Rustin Seyle kicked the extra point for the Vikings. Central Catholic tied it up at 7. After a PV three and out, Ferrell scored on a 23-yard run and gave his Vikings a 14-7 lead.
ACC fumbled to start the second quarter and PV responded with a two-yard run by fullback Matt Buonforte with 8:48 left in the first half. The game was tied 14-14 after the good extra point. ACC coughed it up again on the very next drive. PV’s Mitchell gave the Bears the lead with a one-yard run with 3:09 left in first half. 20-14 PV was the score after a missed extra point. Viking kicker Rustin Seyle cut into the Bear lead with a 22-yard field goal to end the first half. The Bears led 20-17 at the half.
The second half started with fireworks as both teams scored in the first two minutes. Brandon Keyes hit Justin Richardson with a 66-yard pass to extend the Bears lead to 27-17. The Vikings responded quickly with a Ferrell kick return touchdown to cut the deficit to 27-24. Later in the third, Ferrell scored again on a 51-yard run to give the Vikings the lead back. ACC led 31-27 after three quarters.
With 5:48 left in the game, Ferrell scored again on a seven-yard run to give the Vikings a 38-27 lead. This touchdown run sealed the game for ACC. Vikings got their first win of the 2016 season, 38-27.
Key players for the Bears were halfback Mike Mitchell and quarterback Brandon Keyes. Mitchell had 130 yards on 25 carries and two touchdowns. Keyes completed 14 passes for 217 yards and a touchdown.
Key Players for the Vikings were halfback Darnell Ferrell (game’s leader rusher) and quarterback Ethan Persa. Ferrell had 191 yards on 23 carries and five touchdowns (game’s leading rusher). Persa completed 13 passes for 156 yards and a touchdown.
