Week 5 Preview: Wyoming Valley West at Coughlin
Playmaker versus Playmaker. Two juniors are on display when the Spartans travel to Wilkes-Barre Memorial Stadium to take on the Crusaders.
The dynamic junior quarterback Eugene Lewis has had many highlight reel plays throughout his career at Wyoming Valley West. This year, Lewis has gained 438 yards on the ground on 74 carries and has crossed the goal line three times. The 6’2 standout has been receiving interest from Big East schools, as well as, the Big Ten. Lewis is projected as a receiver in college but this year he has been a jack of all trades. Playing quarterback and throwing for 365 yards and 3 scores on 22 of 46 passing. In the two road games against Abington Heights and Pleasant Valley, the defenses were able to bottle up Lewis and restrain him from making big play after big play against them. That is the task that sits in front of Coughlin this Friday. Can the Crusaders’ defense stop Lewis?
For Coughlin, tailback turned quarterback Joe Parsnik has gained 490 yards rushing and has scored 4 touchdowns this season. The Crusaders does not throw the ball much but the junior signal caller has completed 6 of 18 for 88 yards.
The Spartans have won five of the last six meetings between these two programs. Over the last six years, this matchup has come on the first Friday of November.
